"After the Fact" Bumper Promo 01 - Guest: Ulysses McCloud
A promo for a fictional public radio program called "After the Fact: the news Behind local news." A proposed partially scripted talk show blending reality and fiction to attract guests from the worlds of comedy, literature and music for a deadpan 4th wall journey into the show’s hectic production.
Enjoyed your real life production, commentary and interview format -- sounds real professional. Casual, friendly voice. It certainly would play well on NPR. I've asked folks who have submitted similar formats to my submission -- Talk, to please take a moment and listen to it. Would appreciate your feedback as well. Good luck, and my best to you.
...for not mentioning me specifically at 1:57 as you promised. I have been irrevocably injured and damaged as a result.
Otherwise, a great entry. Excellent voice and a very professional, yet loose presentation.
I also like your Best Show video entry. Good Luck!
You have an interesting POV on the world, I just wish it didn't sound like you were trying too hard.
Plus, you don't have to tell people they are mentioned at 1:57 in your entry to get them to listen. When it turns out you lied, you are going to lose people's trust.

i hate pulling this card, but i will in this case. i have worked as a producer for WNYC's "the leonard lopate show" and "soundcheck with john schaefer," as well as working as a full-time reporter for WBAI, and i think that your show really has potential. i vote yes.
Thanks, mysterious stranger.

Good job with the flow. Enjoyed the clip.
Now that's funny. The rest of it I didn't quite, get. But nice attempt and the mixing of the music was pretty spot-on.
Vote for Cereality!
And bonus points for your name! Its a total NPR name. I'm not sure I understand exactly where the 4th wall stuff comes in, do you see it like Larry Sanders style? That's a great idea, if so! I love it when folks fuzz fact and fiction!
Love to hear more. You should do it as a podcast! Let me know if it already is!

Yes, Larry Sanders show is definitely an influence, and Yes, our name was the most NPR sounding thing we could think of.
If we don't advance to the next round, I've already met so many talents here and elsewhere that I think a podcast is inevitable, I'll keep you posted.
Thanks, truly,

Quite a few people with great ideas on here. Perhaps collaboration is the best possible outcome?

Would like to have heard more about you in this piece.
Good luck.

I like the concept, (no but). It will be a lot of work to have a partially scripted show. I do career segments on a local Atlanta station weekly and it takes gobbs of research and writing for 5 minute segments...writing a whole scripted show...you have your work cut out.
Best of luck.

Be bold and mighty forces will come to your aid.
This host has a nice NPR Radio Host sound - and the basic set up is good. So he almost had me..
But then I listened to the interview.
I couldn't tell if was "real" or just a mock up.
What concerened me was that in either case the guest was a LOON. But the host just allowed the guest to ramble on, and spew out bits and pieces of non-coherent thoughts.
How is that useful to the listener?!
A good host should have something insightful and USEFUL to say - not just allow guests a forum for their lunacy.
Please see my post on "Talk Star" for more on what makes a good host - IMHO.
I don't think making false statements on anothers entry about them being mentioned in your spot is nice. You give me a compliment and say that I am mentioned, but what really gets my goat is you have done that to a lot of other entries. So if the latter of your comment is a lie what does that say about your opening statement. Kindly remove your comment from my page please. If you want to promote your piece that is fine but don't lie to do it. That is unethical. Thank you \m/-TA2-\m/
I wonder if you think I'm claiming to channel Oscar Wilde. I *do*, mind you, but that's beside the point.
Yo! Tattoo! Climb down off your own personal Fantasy Island and learn what a "signature" is, what whimsy is and what just plain good manners are! If you'd stop and THINK for a moment you'd realize you WERE mentioned at 1:57. As were we all.

The universality of the signature is supposed to cement its place as a joke, intended to further illustrate the reality bending tone I'm going for in the above piece. It's on every comment I've left, not a strategic few, and I've had more compliments on it, than anything else.
Everything else I posted in regards to complimenting your clip was valid, and you appear to be doing deservedly great. But I'll remove the praise if it offends your sense of purity.
Good luck, regardless.

I get the joke "you" are metioned and you use the word you. Sorry I misunderstood but I still don't find the humor in it. Nice play on words though. Good luck.\m/-TA2-\m/

Well, I can just forget about making it to the next round of this contest... >:(
-Especially- if I have to compete with your entry, Mr. Anderson.. oh, sorry.. Mr. Smith. >:P
And even if I did make it to the next round, I never would be able to handle the lions, and if faced against you, you would just need to have me laugh myself to death, to win.
You have my vote. Emphatically. Your entry was the -best- I have heard so far.
I am very certain I will be culled quickly, but I will be -rooting- for you. I would -dearly- *love* to hear a radio version of 'The Onion' on public radio, and -you- seem to be the man to do it! >:o >:)

P.S. -> Your YouTube 'politicalesque ad' video was a *RIOT* too. If you don't make it in radio, you should give TV a shot. Comedy Central should snap you up in a -second-!
Your words mean more than bullets crashing into rogue mummies. It sounds like you should really check out The Onion's two podcasts, one audio and one video, they do a great job of tailoring their deadpan news-derived humor to the cliches of the mediums of radio bumpers (in the case of the audio format) and cable news bites (in the video podcast, natch).
Keep recording, keep voting, keep everything.

I was completely wollitized -- you captured the kren refraptingly. Stay within your thrune and ballow nefare!
this is a show that i would definitely listen to. this has to be produced!
and engaging. I liked how you allowed your subject to paint his own story and you supplied the frame. You didn't overpower the interview. I know it is "scripted" but sounds natural. I like it. Especially if your guests are this colorful!
So this "partially scripted talk show" thing? Are you familiar with The Kumars @ Number 42? British show couple years back? Hysterical. Absolutely hysterical.
Real celebrities were brought in and "interviewed" by this demented South Asian family played by fabulous improv actors. You just never knew what was going to happen next - and neither did the celebrities - but you knew it was going to be good.
Dogknows all the "real" chat shows are all, essentially, scripted - either before the fact or after the fact - so what the hey. Just go b*lls out and call it what it is and have FUN.
As you CLEARLY did!
Very funny - very, very funny. You and Pete Moore. Oi! *I* am not worthy.

Great entry - your humor reminds me of the very brilliant comedy talk radio program The Phil Hendrie Show, which I discovered on AM just before he went off the air for good. I hope you'll keep Ulysses by your side in Round Two and beyond.
