TQ Nation: sorry I've been MIA... yesterday I developed some connubial blisters--got hitched!

We have much to discuss, you and I, including wedding shenanigans, recent examples of amazing host technique, and current events, but I confess my brain's been addled by one bridal bourbon too many.

In the meantime, sate youself with my column for my local paper about why women go all Bridezilla.

Enjoy the Round 3 entries, and let the games begin.

Bezos from Traverse City,
baer

Love the interview, can't wait to hear more about the wedding. I'm threatening all subordinates with random firings if they don't immediately vote for you.
love and kisses,

what's your "new" last name?

Submitted by aprilbaer on August 7, 2007 - 9:26pm.

The reason is simple. One of the Mister's pals emailled be about four months before the wedding, recommending I Google the phrase "April White". Said mademoiselle is a screenwriter of adult cinema scripts, with some 40 credits to her name on IMDB. :'O

So Baer I'll stay!!!

you didnt really allow a "search engine" to determine your family name?? and your husband just simply agreed to it???

"...your husband just simply agreed to it..."

I'm not married but I plan to keep my last name when I do get hitched. Whether the reason is because I just don't feel like standing in line at the DMV for a new license or because I don't like the sound of the new name or any other reason, I certainly won't be needing my husband's permission one way or the other.

Ah well, different strokes . . .

J/K....but its not about permission..its about joining as one. it's becoming part of his blood line and preserving a family name...your right different strokes I guess. but I wouldnt even consider marriage if the woman wouldnt change her last name....but Im old fashion I guess...a lowley dying breed

ha . . . yeah, I guess I just place more importance on the tangible aspects of promising your life to someone else, as opposed to stressing those customs with a symbolic meaning that can vary wildly from culture to culture and as time goes on. In other words, not changing my last name would have no impact on the way my husband would feel toward me, or me toward him (after all, I wouldn't demand that he change his last name to suit me).

But yes, I do understand that for many people, customs like that that are ingrained into a culture are tough to get rid of. Presumably when I do finally decide to settle down, it'll be with a similarly iconoclastic person! ;)

maybe I just kinda like the sound of April Baer better than April White. I mean, I been wearing this tag around for a while now.

But it's not even original! Chad, would you believe there are at least two more April Baers wandering around out there? And one of them also got married this summer. I know cause she turned up on the Macy's registry.

gotta run-- sun's out.

Congratulations! Traverse City is a great town and a wonderful place to get hitched. Enjoy the bay and the rest of the area.

Sounds like a good blister to have... Hope the honeymoon is as fun and spontaneous as the wedding sounded.

While you're in the Traverse City area, do not miss the Sleeping Bear. There's strong magic there.

we were THIS close to catching a great concert there Sunday night! The Mister's buddy Todd Snider was playing a fest there. But we didn't get on the road soon enough--it should come as a surprise to no one that Saturday night's madness spilled over to the next morning.

Thanks for the good wishes!

Signed,
The Missus.

I can't help thinking... what would a wedding be without the aid of Groomsmen ?
