{Glynn} Snap Judgment: Legal in Lebanon
First of all I want to thank everyone for the comments on my entry, Snap Judgment.
The concept of a Snap Judgment show comes from a real love of aural storytelling. Especially after having children, I became a big fan of books on tape, podcasts, and other things you can do while cradling a sleeping newborn. To me, most stories have a pivot point, decisions where "the decider" does not always have the ability or time or desire to think slowly and rationally. It could be in a love story, a moment of technological innovation, or a hidden reflex betraying an old distrust.
Crazy things happen when decisions are forced. But that's also where we get a glimpse of the real person. Everyone has one of these stories, and they can put a human face on any subject.
Simone surprised herself in the latest entry of Snap Judgment - "Legal in Lebanon". How could an American woman be so swept up in a whirlwind romance inspired by a Syrian wedding, that she herself would get married in Lebanon?
Simone is the kind of person that takes chances.
I recorded an hour long interview, and every word cut to create the final piece made me wince. The groom’s family warned Simone NOT to marry him? CUT! Groom’s cousin translating argument between wife and husband on the wedding bed? CUT! Leaving the country? CUT!
Seriously, it hurt. Like snapping off fingers.
I hate to play you like this, but if you want to hear more . . . vote to give me a show. I promise to provide this story and many more that will be just as entertaining, informative, and relevant.
Finally, I must add that Simone is not the callous woman some have implied. I am a callous editor - I had to be. Five minutes is not a lot of time, but I am proud to share even a taste of her story.
So stay tuned . . . for more Snap Judgment.
Much love from the Bay,
Glynn
The fact that you were able to squeeze all that without sounding forced was excellent. You showed a lot of skill in decision making here. Keep it up, and you may be telling stories to all of america.
