(April) Two for the Road

Top secret business found me in beautiful Boston, Massachusetts last weekend, home of public enemy #1, one Rebecca Watson, whose hosty skills and 24-karat email list make her a formidable Talent Quest contender. Enjoyable, but deadly.

My only hope was to drink her under the table. But lo! It appears that Rebecca only knows bars that serve beer and wine exclusively. She lured me to a genial dive called Bukowski's in Back Bay. The place served only beer and wine--no bourbon, no scotch, and certainly no whiskey. Surely, the old man is doing something like 3000 rpms in his grave over this. But nothing could stop our celebration of having turned in our demos.

Here's to you, Skepchick.

Speaking of the demos.... I'm having a heck of a time getting the webpage that goes with my show online. Watch for it sometime tomorrow.

But you get the idea, right? I'm doing a show that's designed to help answer nagging questions you may be left with at the end of the week. Sure, you've heard all the news. But was there some bit of context that was missing? Maybe you had to go answer the phone just when Terry Gross was getting to a crucial point. Or maybe the reporter had to cut something for time, something you needed to understand the story.

The name of the show is Start Making Sense, and within a day or so, I hope to have a website cooking so you can shoot me questions to attack.

Why is Alan Greenspan going after the president now?
How exactly did the State Department get in so thick with Blackwater in the first place?
Why would anybody care care about the Microsoft ruling?
How can a country (like say, Dubai) buy a stake in a stock exchange?
And what in the name of all that's holy is up with OJ? (Sorry, I really can't answer that last one for you.)

Anything that's on your mind. I and the Start Making Sense team will put together interviews, produced stories, essays and more that answer your questions. We'll also stick it to a few of the newsmakers who desperately need skewering--swordwork courtesy of my pals Courtenay Hameister and the Faces for Radio Theater. You might have heard them on this show.

Once the site is up, I also hope to share some of the audio I got, but didn't end up using--great Q&A with Vali Nasr, for one thing, about what's holding up a political solution in Iraq.

Can't wait to get crackin'! Feel free to post your preliminary ideas here.

So you had a drink with your arch-rival, Rebecca. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Is that how that saying goes? You know, your concept might actually work with Rebecca as the other speaker in your show. Now there would be some intrigue and suspense. Ever think of that judges? Why not let the winners do a show together? ...of course, all that arch-rival stuff might get in the way.

it' hasn't been discussed, Rev. Like some sort of "godly vs. godless" format.... intriguing.
