A life in the balance

This piece is an adaptation of a public speaking exercise I wrote and delivered to a small captive seminar audience on the theme of Life-Changing Experiences.

I beautiful illustration of how a small thing can make a big difference in your life. You make the old "A butterfly's sneeze..." platitude personal and real. Warm and inviting. Put THAT on your book jacket and print it!

I love the part where you build up to the mention of the single: Triple Beam Balance (quoting the un-scientific girl).
Definitely made me LOL.

What a heartwarming happy ending!

Though already hitched myself, you've proven that there's hope for us all. Bravo! Great delivery. That was so ready for ATC or TAL.

Wow, I wish I had better luck in my lab classes. You definitely know how to tell a compelling story with a hero to root for. A Cinderella/Peter Parker tale indeed!

Very good storytelling skills, and excellent comedic timing. I can definitely hear a story like this on "This American Life".

Listening to your story I had to smile. It seems it is always the little things that turn into the big things in life.

Which is good as long as the big things they turn into turn out for the best. For me, it's been "so far, so good," and I count myself lucky. Thanks for listening, Steve.

Thank you, Jimmy. I don't always like the sound of my voice, but I do try to become a little more human each day. :)

Thank you, nurmihusa. I am particularly gratified by your subject line. The line from which you quoted it was my last major addition to the piece, and I'm glad to know it works.
