A Very High Quality Shareware Digital Recordiing Program

I use a program called GoldWave. You can download and use it for a number of months for free. Eventually, if you really like it, it costs about $45 to keep it going.

http://www.goldwave.com/

It makes mp3 files and wav files. You can edit the file before saving, you can cut out pieces, you can increase or decrease the volume and lots of other things. But the best thing is, you pick a size (like the required two minutes), hit the record button, and you can see it recording in an oscilloscope whatever you say as you say it. I've been using it for many years and love it. And the quality of the recording is very high, more than CD quality if you choose that. Record so that the sound is no higher than .5 on the oscilloscope (when you run it, you will see what I mean).

P.S. I have no connection with the GoldWave people. It can be used for free for a large number of months.

Audacity is free, open-source, available for Mac, Linux, and Windows, and pretty darn good if you ask me. Download it at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/. 3countylaugh wrote a post about Audacity a little while ago.

I used to use Goldwave. It is ok as software goes , but quite antiquated and inferior to Wave Pad. Try Wave Pad, the free trial isn't limited like Goldwave is. On Goldwave you only get 2,000 clicks which you can go thru quite quickly, and every 150 clicks you must refresh it. Wave Pad is totally free and much more user friendly with tons more usable extras...
