Talent Quest finalist Al Letson's pilot for his program State of the ReUNION.

Al,

The setup and the pilot not only has a different vibe, but it is well-executed and great guests representing the city.

Now, I'm going to be bias about this pilot because it deals with Washington, DC. You hit it on the head about DC and your beginning about DC was exactly as I was thinking. You also gave a fair view of what DC was and is with the different personalities and cultures in each ward. You picked the right guests and your show's portrait of DC is on target. I would like to hear a politican for 1-2 minutes on how they view DC and ask a politican what they know about DC except the historic/federal stuff.

Al, just to make this simple: You got a show!

I'm very excited for you! I'm truly overwhelmed because I know that you had to work really hard to accomplish this far in the contest. You are truly a mastermind in everything that you do! Continue to conquer.

Busboys & Poets is an amazing place. If ever in the D.C area, go check it out!

Peace

Your pilot is the only one of the three finalists I feel is really unique. The format of interviews and storytelling is tried and true, but the types of stories you're seeking are unique. Snapshots of a community. The closests thing is a travel show, and you're definitely doing something more interesting than that. The beauty of the subject matter is its endlessness. You could do a lifetime of shows in just one city. If you're unable to take this concept national, you should pitch it on a local level to a specific station who's looking to increase their local programming presence.

Thank you all for your comments. Katherine, yes that is the Thievery Corporation. They hail from Washington DC. This project has so much help, and I forgot to credit and thank my good friend Wille Ev for his help with the 5 minute pilot (way back when) and his help with the Poemcee's segment. He came and swooped in and worked on the pieces without any guidance from me, and just nailed it.
Katrina Matthews, helped with a lot of the field recording, and served as an instructor of how to record on the field. (Which I didn't fully grasp until the last interview LOL)
WAMU. What can I say. Karen Mathis, Mark McDonald, Jim Ascendio, they were incredible in their giving and help.
And I know I've already thanked them, but judge Doug "Obi Wan" Mitchell, who has been a sounding board, friend, and brain trust, and Taki Telodonis without whom there would be nothing to hear, have my eternal thanks. More thank you's to come.

I got a good sense what it's like- not to visit, but to be there.
I would not have guessed from your early entries that this is where you were headed. It was a pleasant surprise to hear the strong sociological/historical focus, and an even bigger surprise that skillful interviews (which you said in Round 3 were unfamiliar territory) would be the meat that holds the show together.
Good job!

Sorry, me again. I wanted to ask something: is some of the background music Thievery Corporation? It sounds like them.

Wow. I liked you during the competition, and I wanted you to do well, but in all honesty you weren't one of my favorites. But this is the best pilot of the 3; it's the only one that kept me interested long enough to listen to the whole thing, and it's the only show I would be eager to listen to each week. The other pilots are entertaining, but this one is so much more. You've definitely won me over.

I like your taste. The music was hot, and your poetry was too. Well done.
