"Whatever increases profit margin and personal wealth is a -Good- -Thing-.
Regardless if it hurts others, damages the environment, or is unfair and unprincipled, profit and wealth are always -Good- -Things-."

Based on my experience, this 'Priniciple' is the only 'governing' precept that dominates business *and* politics, all around the world.
How is a written pledge suppose to contravene this most powerful of corporate/business motivations?

'Rule of law'? Enron, MCI WorldComm, Quest, and Tyco only "learned" about "ethical behaviour" because they were caught. For the ones still uncaught and unexposed, a signature on a pledge is a great show, but doesn't suspend the 'Principle'. A sort of 'Two-Face Axiom': one 'face' is shown to the public as ethical, honourable, and principled; the other continues to perpetuate the 'Principle' behind the 'cloak of respectability'...

Your audio entry has my highest rating, but I my personal opinion is that the "nice guy" approach is easy to ignore. If you don't shove it in their unethical faces and make them smell the stink, they will continue to do what they are doing to support the 'Principle', and hope that they don't get caught.

I've been a newsletter subscriber of Shel's for several years, and I'm never disappointed by his content and his unwavering commitment to making people the focus of things - not just products and money.

I would absolutely listen to Shel's show - please put him on!

I've known Shel for a few years now through the Internet. He writes several excellent newsletters and his book, "Principled Profit" is sure to be a business classic. Shel's on the right track, and his radio show is excellent. My vote goes to him!

I vote for Shel Horowitz’s Good Business Radio Show. In a world full of business corruption at all levels, there is a definite need for a show like Shel’s which makes business owners, corporate executives, and the general public aware that it’s possible for a business to be ethical AND profitable at the same time. One does not preclude the other, and more people need to be made aware of that fact.

The world needs more Shel! I joined Shel's Ethical Business Pledge almost as soon as I heard of it. Ethics in business is crucial in ensuring that we have a healthy planet to pass on to succeeding generations.

Shel's is the voice that I would like to hear leading us towards the day that ethics, principles and responsibility are again a fundamental requirement for anyone wishing to do business.

I vote for Shel without reservation! He is an intelligent, thoughtful person with a powerful message and conversational style--and he is well spoken and has a great radio voice, too.

If everyone just did his or her part to make the world a better place, we'd all be better off. What better way to that than by conducting business ethically? Not only does the concept sound fun and enjoyable, but it's a helpful reminder that we can all indeed DO something.

As a small business owner and a long term nonprofit executive, I've spent a lot of time thinking about business ethics and how to not only run a profitable business, but one that makes the world a better place.

Shel Horowitz is someone I'd like to hear a lot more of. Thoughtful, great voice, and covering issues of business from an angle that too few think of or discuss. I would definitely like to hear more!

Shel Horowitz epitomizes the best in ethical business philosophy and practice. Shel would make a highly worthwhile addition to NPR programming.

I really appreciate it. Went to your Bigeye site, BTW, and really liked it. Would like it even better if it had a contact form that I could find.

If you feel so moved, I'd love it if on your next visit to Talent Quest, if you added a high star rating to your comment. I suspect those count a whole lot.

Shel brings great intelligence, depth of knowledge, and wit to an area of business given too little voice but that is growing in importance and impact. I think he would add a vital new dimension to public radio.

In a world dominated by poor ethical business decision making, this probably seems contradictory. The reality is we focus on what we hear and see more than we realize. Providing positive business examples changes our collective focus. I truly hope that you get included as an NPR speaker.

I'd be delighted to hear Shel Horowitz on NPR. His approach to business is both practical and principled. Please considerer him as a host!

Forthright principles, well presented. Goes further than the current Marketplace show in making a clear focus for those of us who value both prosperity AND progressive living.
Could help educate folks who are still thinking that's a contradiction.
Bravo!

One question: why didn't you use a clip from your existing show?

Submitted by JCS on May 5, 2007 - 8:33pm.

Business ethics has become a third rail that politicians and the business press dare not touch. Shel Horowitz deals with ethics in commerce in a non-confrontational way, showing how listeners can behave ethically and profit--a true win-win. I hope he is picked, because, not only is his style appealong, but his is a message that ought to be heard!

Submitted by TracyT37 on May 5, 2007 - 8:21pm.

I was borderline on this. Let me say I think you got a natural voice and tone for this topic. I think I'm quivering about the topic. I think it's important people need to know good business, but my worry is it might be too positive. But as I think about it, I think it should expand to other businesses from home, telecommuting, or on the street. Keep it up.
