Meet Myles

Nothing fancy; just want to give the listeners and the judges a sample of what I'm like and what I sound like. Forgive my inexperience at audio skills. To read some stuff I wrote, visit http://weaknights.typepad.com/weak_nights/nye/index.html

If more people are given the oppurtunity to regularly hear what Myles Nye has to say, the world will be a better place. Good luck Myles! And good luck to everybody listening - if things work out in your favor, Myles will be on the radio for your listening pleasure.

Your passion and interest come through clearly on this. I especially loved that you refer to yourself as a joiner--I can definitely relate to that as I always call myself "a fan."

Best of luck!

Really enjoyed the sound of your voice. Very soothing without sounding sleepy. Best of luck to you.

I'd like to know what you think of mine:

I feel the same way about public radio. It keeps me informed and makes me feel like i have some idea of what is going on in this crazy world. I would love to tune in on a sunday morning with a cup of coffee and hear your voice.

Hey, Myles! I hope you win. I could listen to that silky smooth voice all hour.

Myles has the kind of earnestly interested voice I would enjoy tuning into, if only to hear what larger-than-life experience he's been through last.

Great delivery: You manage to be laid back and energized at the same time, quite an accomplishment. I eagerly await further developments in your Roller Derby refereeing adventure!

Listening to Myles is enjoyable. It's like unexpectedly running into a pleasant, funny friend; you relax, pick up an interesting perspective and savor the moment. We could all use this kind of personality.

I would love to hear Myles as a regular on NPR. The inflection and tone of the first few moments of his sample brought to mind the voice of Jean Shepherd, one of the great story tellers of all time.

I was a huge Jean Shepherd (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Shepherd) fan, particularly his story telling days on WOR, and had the pleasure of working with him on the precursor to "A Christmans Story," for an NET Playhouse production called "The Great Inverted Bowl of Darkness."

All of these pieces have characters Jean brought to life in his book, "In God We Trust, All others Pay Cash."

Go Myles!

I think Myles Nye is one of the most talented people I know. He would be a great voice to have on the radio.

Gotta love a demo that’s got the phrase “pole-dancing” in the first 2 seconds ;)
Regarding outside sound dampening, try a closet:

Want to hear more about what kind of show you’d do, but I think you sound ADD enough (that’s a compliment, BTW) to do pretty much anything well if you set your mind to it.

boy, i can't wait for the podcast.

Submitted by mylesnye on May 22, 2007 - 9:38pm.

That's a great idea! Is there a "Podcasting for Dummies"? Or better yet a "'Podcasting for Dummies' For Dummies." We're starting at a very basic level here. -M.

I have listened to this guy's voice for many, many years and I would love to hear it on the radio!

This snippet wasn't enough. I had to JOIN this site just so I could vote. Way to inspire and good luck Myles Nye!

Submitted by mylesnye on May 22, 2007 - 9:37pm.

I have recorded a longer audio submission that I will upload when I summon up the muster (mettle?) to wrestle with file compression. But I recommend tiding yourself over by reading my blog or videos at weaknights.com. -M.

He has a wonderful voice and is very witty. I find him completely charming and would love to listen to him on the radio. I think that he would make an excellent member of the public radio family!

Submitted by mylesnye on May 22, 2007 - 9:29pm.

This is a great endorsement: thank you Dagmar! Some day if your hopes and mine pay off, I will join that great cabal that includes two people named Ira and two people named Click and Clack. -M.

I've always loved Nye's humor; he's a smart comedian who doesn't have to resort to "gutter talk" to get a hearty laugh. I've seen him tap dance, perform in sketch and improv comedy, contribute witty and informative pieces to Weak Nights, and write the deliciously hilarious "Survivor: The Musical." As a long-time Nye fan, I must say that I am 100% in support of Myles Nye as the next voice of NPR. Funny, charming, intelligent and well-spoken, Nye would make an excellent addition to the NPR team.

Submitted by mylesnye on May 18, 2007 - 5:35pm.

Kim is funny and charming enough in her own right to host her own show. Takes one to know one, I guess. Thanks for the support Kim! You're a real pal.

I will do my best to live up to your expectations, and I will think of you years from now when I am doing my umpty-umpth pledge break. "Think of yaksha, yaksha believed in you from the beginning..."
