I have hit a brick wall
I have a 1:49 bit ready to submit, but I am not terribly well schooled on how to upload an audio file properly. I have an audio editing software program and all that, but I keep getting an error message when I try and upload. I feel like I'm a doofus and I don't know enough on how to change the bit rate so it is acceptable and all that. UGH. I'm an old man.
HELP!
Perhaps one of the easiest ways to manipulate your audio file (if you're willing to turn to the dark side) is through iTunes (FREE: http://www.apple.com/itunes ).
Once you have imported your file into iTunes, you can adjust the file rate by going to iTunes > Preferences > Advanced > Importing (may be different on PC). Change "Import Using" to "MP3 Encoder" and "Setting" to "Good Quality (128)", if it's not already. Hit "OK". THEN, you need to go to Advanced > "Convert Selection to MP3". Essentially, this makes a new copy of your audio file as an MP3 at 128 kbps. This is the file you can upload.
If you need to trim your file for length (to get down to 2 minutes), highlight your file in iTunes and go to File > Get Info > Options. Here you can set your preferred Start TIme and Stop Time. Hit "OK". You will then go to Advanced > "Convert Selection to MP3". Again, this will create a NEW file that is trimmed in length.
Hope that helps. Little podcaster tricks of the trade.

I followed your iTunes instructions above. But I'm still getting this error:
Due to a flash limitation your entry's sample_rate needs to be a multiple of 11025.
No worries!
From the above instructions:
• In "Settings", choose "Custom..." (instead of "Good Quality - 128 kbps")
• The MP3 Encoder window will open.
• In the Stereo Bit Rate section, select 128 kbps.
• For the Sample Rate, select 44.100 kHz.
• Hit "OK"
Then do the advanced > convert function to make a new file with correct sample rate.
Good luck!

Thanks so much.
I knew it'd be easier if I wasn't so tired in the middle of the night. Yes, I use I-Tunes already and that was very helpful. I was just one step off, and it was bugging me!
Being the old fart I am, I tend to trip out over small annoying stuff like that. HA HA!
ROFLMAO
stalzz, you killed me with the last line of your message: "I'm an old man."
I can't wait to hear your submission.
Steve
Ultimately the paradoxes of life make fools of us all. So if we would be wise we should study life's paradoxes and confront our abject foolishness head on.
I had a couple of problems too. I recorded at work on a PC using Adobe software, then had to convert it to a smaller file, cuz I guess we use the big guns here. But, eventually it worked out. There are several free software programs that can help you switch it to an MP3 file, even to a smaller MP3 file, if that's the problem. The one I downloaded was called Switch. I found I had trouble trying to use free editing software, because it also required downloading a program that would write an MP3 file, and for some reason, that wasn't working out for me, but if you're on a PC, it might be easier to find.
Hang in there,
