Where Do Froggies Come From?

I am the host of the nonprofit literary arts podcast called A River & Sound Review. This is an excerpt from our most recent show where I explain the facts of life to my ten year old son.

I have to say hearing those frogs in the background while you try to explain a very complicated subject to your son--it did something to me. I smiled, I looked down, my thoughts stopped wandering. Perfect. It was so smart to use this excerpt. Not only does it add texture, but we get to hear your voice in a much more intimate way. It was sweet without being sentimental, and your son's voice was so lovely. I almost wish that was your whole 2 minutes, because it drew me in so completely.
Really nice.

Having just experienced an hour's worth of River & Sound, I would say that this excerpt is one part of a larger--and very impressive--whole. It's not easy to produce a cohesive hour-long program that includes audience participation, humor, and a serious look at literature. Jay is much more than a simple "host"--he's a visionary. Judith

Wow... I just love the way you set this up. Good stuff man. I can not criticize as well as you either... so good luck in the content.

I don't know which was funnier. You trying to be logical or your son giggling at you as you tried.

Great audio piece, but you better include your son in your act or watch your back. That kid has talent.

It really makes me want to hear more... I'd follow him through a million little stories.

If, like me, you needed to hear this entire piece (including the precious "ah ha" moment Conner has which includes "wait, so the frog sits on the egg, and I'm the chicken in the egg?") you can get it by podcast at http://www.riverandsoundreview.org/podcasts/PastPrograms.htm

Lots of good stuff there!

One of the most interesting pieces I've heard so far. Love your voice, has a hint of David Rakoff (who I'd listen to read the phone book). Very nice.

I listened to this entire segment on "A River & Sound Review" and suggest others do the same. This conversation between father and son is priceless.

Great story, great voice! I'm going to be a regular podcast listener from now on!

In the way he speaks to you I hear how readily your son trusts you. That makes me trust you, too -- an essential element of hostiness. Nice.

Great voice and great story-telling ability. I definitely want to hear more. Thanks, I enjoyed this. Great clip!

This is a charming bit of the real stuff -- a father caught in the throes of explaining the throes of the frogs. Excellent work!

This sounds like someone I would want to know. Friendly, good sense of humor, smart, but very accessible. One question: How do you manage to make your voice sound so smooth and at the same time animated and expressive? This clip is my favorite so far!

As usual, you're a master storyteller, Jay. Love the podcast.

Enjoyed listening to you, Jay. The clip has a very nice, intimate feel -- as I imagine the whole show does as well. Keep it up!

Ok, so I'm partial to frogs. I used to live next to a creek where the frogs would sing me to sleep at night. So, I may be biased. Oh, and I just had a similar encounter with my neighbor who asked me how my dog could be half lab and half husky... she just didn't get it. Anyway, I could relate to your story and the way you told it made me smile. Thank you and good luck. This is one of my favorites!

...and I thought that both voices that you used (announcer and dad) were great in their own way. Very hosty!

Very friendly, calming voice and a neat way to show your personality. And of course your son sounds like a doll! Want to hear more.
