Well written, too.

Wow you should like record books on tape or something. It was great

Ferde, your voice and personality are tailor made for this medium. I hope you are involved in some capacity and are sharing your gift on the airwaves. Treat for the ears.
Steve
You have a truly mellow voice. I enjoyed your piece and am hoping you will have a chance to expand on yout theme of story telling.

Second best radio voice ever (the number one guy is a pharmacist here, go figure....)
But, what's the show going to be about ?
Ok, I'd listen a few times to him saying strings
of platitudes or reading the phone book, but I don't think it has staying power.
Ferde Grofe (reply). Fair enough. Certainly staying power has to be something more than a 'set of pipes', I would think that content,(i.e.); what you wish to say is no less important than the style or technique of delivery. The content is entirely all my own while I think reading a telephone directory is hardly a qualification to mesmerize or inspire an audience. The question is as old as minstrelsy itself;..."is it the singer, or the song?" Was my content equal to my delivery? The listener must decide. In either case I am satisfied as it is my 'song' and I am also the 'singer'. 'nough said?
Lovely, lovely piece. My first five star vote. Storytelling is such a wonderful art, and you are a master storyteller. I'll be looking forward to hearing more in the second round. Best of luck! Perhaps you'll listen to my entry:

I agree that the art of oral storytelling is a dying artform that should be preserved. Your prose drew me in and your voice bewitching. If you enjoy a good story please check out my entry

WOW !!!
The competition is getting tough!
Good luck!!
And so nicely delivered. You should be making MILLIONS doing narrations for books, movies and (yes) radio. Best of luck to you.

Excellent job, sir. I must say that out of the forty entries I've listened to so far, I believe you're only the fourth or fifth "five star" review I've given!
If you don't currently work in a capacity that uses your voice and delivery, then that's a shame. I wish you well on the contest, sir.
Ferde Grofe. For real? A hero of yours?
I love the sound of your voice. It reminds me of the narrator for Nova (or was it Nature?) from when I was a kid.
As I live and breathe. What a thrill! I am so pleased to "virtually" meet you.
Your father's music (Grand Canyon and Hudson River Suites) was some of the first classical music my father played for me when I was little. I loved it and never forgot it. In fact, I carried it forward to my sons and shared the same pieces with them when they were little.
All best!
and I hope you get to continue to keep this alive, even as I strive to keep human philosophic conversation alive.
Ferde, best of luck to both of us.
Steve
Do you know where the poetry is in poetic justice?
Ferde Grofe'
'I might if I like
But I don't so I won't,
While I would if I could
Hence I can't so I shan't.'
Your voice has so much great character and interest to it. It fits the topic quite nicely, as I can image you at a Renaissance Faire telling stories...very nice!

Your voice reminded me (pleasantly) of PBS historical films--while the battles are droning on the past, your voice is there in the present to tell of the ultimate significance of that single officer falling to his poetic demise. I wonder if that means that your voice has a visual element to it? Good luck...
Your voice grabbed me. It is soothing, yet commanding. Definitely hosty.

but it feels too read from the page for me. Shouldn't a great host be able to talk in free style?! Many of these entries miss the point in my opinion.
... but it's just as appropriate to say about Poetry.
"Poetry is such an important part of our lives, we should all listen to it whether we like it or not!"
Good job! Good luck!
