What should we do with Affiliate Points?

Submitted by jake on March 6, 2007 - 2:41pm. ::

In addition to helping spread the word about the Talent Quest, the links that come through posting an affiliate banner on your site earn you points on the publicradioquest.com site.

And then you can see who the Top Affiliates are, ranked by points based on how many links come through their banners.

We've had some ideas about what to do with points: trade them for PRX points for stations to download audio, simply add them up and determine "winners", earn points for prizes as on the Points and Prizes website .

Any suggestions?

So what ever happened to the top affilates? What did you decide to do with the points? I believe I was in first place

Todd and Bee were some of the higher affiliates... (that list is long gone from the side bar)

What to do... what to do...

Is there a PRTQ t-shirt?

a lot of different "promises" made a while back about certain "prizes" so to speak to be given out like: special mentions, comments made to your peice made available, some type of honor for most points, and most affiliate points and honarable mentions and so on and so forth and yet, none of them have been followed through as of yet- I'm not saying they have forgotten but they have been awful slow on producing any of that they stated in the earlier stages of this contest. I hope they do something...and the sooner the better...I think thats where a lot of frustration has come from and why so many simply gave up on following the progress of this site...

Well, the first thing to do with points is make a note how many people have 10; and the overall distribution of points.

I doubt this could happen, but, if someone were to rig the system the way things have been rigged on Idol and many other voting systems. You'd mechanically get a block of dummy accounts to vote on some sites. You'd get either a bunch of accounts with 10 points or a bunch of accounts all with the identical point count.

I thought the points were an internal quality control to see that voters were thoughtfully examining at least several entries.

Ok if you earned all the points, you probably listened to a lot of entries. Let us redeem our points for a cd set of the Top 500 or how ever many will fit on a cd!!!!

recording the outgoing message on one's home answering machine, say 100 points for 10 seconds or something like that? :)

I'd love to see any comments you may have on my entry ("One Thing ..."). Thanks!

I would love to use my points to get a calender of all of my favorite public radio hosts in their sexiest poses. Possibly nothing but the mic?

There would be a lot of people who would THINK they want that calendar, then get very very scared.

PRX points that would allow a broke, struggling station to download audio!

So what do you think about all of our suggestions? Which ones might work and which ones will not? You asked for our feedback and now we would like some from you as well please.\m/-TA2-\m/

I glanced at the "prize" page and I have seen better stuff in Fingerhut. We are all recording and producing professionals here. I think studio equipment or audio software/hardware would be the best most rewarding way of showing appreciation for the top afiliate.

I think it would be most excellent to have one cent per point towards the purchase of recording (and musical, hee hee) merchandise...

But that's just me...

I have a recording studio of my own. That's where I record and produce my FM radio show. It would be great to redeem point and update some of my equiptment. I like your way of thinking! Keep On Rockin-

I was thinking we spend the points on various forms of endorsements that we could add to our profiles. I.e. a low-level amount of points could get a written endorsement from someone involved with the contest. Mid-range points could get an audio endorsement to post up, while high-range could get a (You Tube) Video endorsement to post up. It sounds a little far fetched, but that's why they call them "Ideas"

I am an individual not a radio station. I think it would be best to award the prizes not the downloads.

Even if I don't win any of the rounds, I still want to pursue getting my show some national exposure. To do that, I think I need some space on PRX. How 'bout points = a trial membership in PRX?

PS - you do know that the points counter adds up repeat clicks, right? Like hundreds of clicks from the same user in a row?

I can't wait to get Baywatch Season 1! only 99,990 points to go!

Actually, trading them for PRX points is a great idea!
