I liked the whole thing. It was thought provoking, mellow and you ROCK! 5 STARS.

I am sitting at my laptop with a puppy in my lap and she was all tilted head and ears...I think I even saw a smile.

Sarah, this is really great. Nice editing. And your voice... Wow. Very professional. I really like the idea of producing a global music show that also incorporates news and events from the featured region.

This reminds me a lot of The Global Village on KPFK Los Angeles (Pacifica). I forget if there is a Pacifica affiliate in your area. You might be interested in that network.

although you can tell that you are a little hipper than the global village is, but still.

good editing!

You have a great way with sound. If this were on the air, I'd seek it out. I'd go out of my way to listen to it.

Sarah:

That is the best production I have heard so far on this Quest and I doubt anyone will top it. Tonight when I got a chance I listened again (with headphones this time) and I was totally impressed with your abilities. Did you do this in a studio or on personal equipment? I also do understand the point "is it all about the music" - I didn't get it the first time (I guess sometimes I overlook the obvious)however I doubt real thinkers will. Great job - see ya in the next round.

Thank you so much Ed! Yes, well I do produce pieces in a sort-of studio using Protools. I like the program it allows for creativity to come forward,....so much that its easy to forget to also speak......then you have to determine if an input will add to the flow or interfere with a wave.. Music essentially is that...a journey that takes you into places you may not have been able to connect with before or even know "what" it is your connecting with....but deep down we listen because we know somehow it connects us with "the source" :)

Ms. Lange,

You mentioned Protools in your post. I have been told that it's available for Windows, but haven't found the lite versions or any version for Windows. Was I misled?

Sarah - Great job using music to enlighten (getting to think) through music - I thought it was hosty enough. Hey Sarah lets see what you think - check this out, lets get more involved. http://www.publicradioquest.com/node/619#comment-2667

I think this is a great piece, but it tells me nothing about the host except that she is one of the softer female voices in it and she can produce things well.

Submitted by sarahlange on May 2, 2007 - 4:04pm.

First, thanks for the comment. I agree my voice is soft at some points I shouldve brought the levels up a bit. As far as hostiness- well, i chose the genre of music and my piece was supposed to convey the purpose of a show I would host. I do not want the focus to be on MY words as much as on the messages from different cultures that are told through music ....a lot of which comes from a deeper place, be it political, spiritual etc. So,as a host I am choosing, mixing and bringing these sounds to the public along with informative guests I would have as well as news updates. I believe a "host" has to have the ability to produce all facets of a show.

your ideas. A music show that actually incorporates the larger aspects of cultural expression would be a great asset to public radio.

Nice idea for a radio station. Good music with a favorable amount of updates. Also, the host has a very nice voice. Not excitable or annoying, just smooth and calm. I look foward to this becoming a regular station. ~HorseGirl~

This show sounds like it would do for music and culture what the BBC does for news: delivering the world to the listener. Kind of a World Café feel, but reaching into less familiar territory; more emphasis on the globe, and exploring other cultures, lands and people (and issues) through music and discussion.

What a brilliant way to spend some time of the day. Positive music that conveys a deeper message and leads one to further questioning if the ear is tuned. After listening to this sweet woman's voice and the musical message that she can bring to people, I am sure that this is the best possible choice! Let's bring them lyrics with heart, music that educates, and a host that advocates for justice through music- quite beautiful.

Amazing delivery, fascinating topics, grade A production work. Sarah is the hostiness with the mostiness. This seems to be exactly what NPR is looking for. I like that while the focus is music, it goes beyond that. Great job!
