The Sudan Situation

In 2001 as part of a ground-breaking internet radio show-Black World Report-we interviewed policy makers on the question of peace in Sudan.

As I'm so white I'm nearly transparent (although unlike some of my fellows, I actually take the time to learn about, as you say, the African Diaspora), I feel a little strange commenting on the clip, but its evident that you have a sober and serious topic on your mind, and are endeavoring to put it across in a thorough and informative way. My only comment, I suppose, would be to ensure that the show can be heard by and makes sense to people from all walks of life and from all races. Clearly what is missing these days is not so much a show from the black perspective as a show from that perspective that can bridge the gap to the others!
As I've said, clearly done, intelligently planned.
Good luck to you!

By the end of your intro I was smiling, I was glad to hear you! I don't know that we need a "black perspective," maybe we do. But there can never be too many smart and pleasant voices on the air. Good luck!

I agree--there should be a program to talk about black issues.

Here in Austin we have a program that airs in the afternoons on Fridays called Latino USA. It talks about all things ethnically related to the Latin population--art, music, politics, social issues, etc. I listen to it even though I'm not from a Latino background because I think they do a great job discussing these issues--issues that affect a HUGE portion of our population.

Definitely the African-American population (and the rest of the country) could benefit from a national show that follows a similar vein.

Hi,

I think this is a much needed perspective--to be very frank there are so few black reporters and hosts on NPR, it is refreshing and encouraging. Good luck!
