i might use one. although if you pump in a mac-level of money into a pc desktop (in terms of improving ram, etc), you can get a pretty amazing computer.

Yes, but it's worth it.

The difference between a Chevy and a Honda.

Yeah, you can spend the same amount and get all kinds of bells and whistles for your Chevy, but the engine still sucks, the gas mileage is intolerable, and the resale value is far less.

that is mostly my opinion on such matters. i have a small cute slimline desktop pc (under $500), got an extra ram card ($70) so it runs super fast, and got an external hard drive for about $50 so it has like infinite space. and although it is credit card debt, it is a lot less credit card debt than buying a mac. and it does pretty much everything i need.

Plus whenever I want to open up the darn thing and put something new in it, all it takes is a screwdriver and some will power. and i am the kind of person that does that sort of thing. I like the modularity of PCs over the aesthetics of macs.

plus i grew up on pcs, can use either, but don't mind what people might find inconvenenient about pcs. i always sort of liked the programming aspect about it anyhow. i actually find the functions that other people find helpful on macs to be annoying because A there are too many smiley faces B sometimes i don't like their solutions and C there isn't as much variability in it.

the anti-virus aspect would be pretty much the only thing that i would value, because that is pretty nice. But if the market share were to open up wider (as it would if macs weren't super expensive), people would just spend more time designing viruses for macs and that advantage would be gone.

For now I will stick with the working man's computer: the PC.

LOL.
I actually grew up around Apple. My first computer was an Apple IIe waaaay back in the day.

Don't get me wrong. My husband bought a Dell laptop that is KILLER for far less than he'd have paid for a Mac with the same options. This thing could run the Death Star.

Still, I'll save my pennies and buy my Mac desktop, just because I love them. Sometimes I go to Fry's Electronics and just stare at the 24-inch monitors and hold the wireless mouse and pretend it's mine...allllll miiineee.

... but many mac users are, sometimes for justifiable reasons, but not always. sometimes it seems like people like macs because of their corporate cross marketing capacity (e.g. itunes) or because they don't figure out creative ways to fix their annoying pc problems.

which isn't necessarily you.

but maybe i am all jaded because ipods (for example) are so popular and yet have like 1/4 of the functionality of similar items, and yet sell for like 2-3x the price. I mean, not being able to download off of them is an amazing loss of functionality. and their capacity to record is really not very good. and they don't even get radio!!! but they look cute, have a hip marketing campaign, people trust the brand name because of the marketing campaign, so they are uber popular.

also sometimes i think people get too caught up in the cuteness factor.

there are pros and cons for both of them. the virus issue is definitley an important one. and sometimes you can do better video production on macs, etc.

i often use the mac lab in school because nobody else uses it, and because i understand them and they are fine.

but i don't necessarily think they are actually worth the amount of money they cost. They aren't really that much better, especially if you invest a lot into souping up your pc. But most people aren't tech nerds like that (like me). Which is not an insult, just a statement of fact.

...and ended up giving it away. It just wasn't "all that".

And yes, I agree, a lot of people (not just in this case) are obsessed with the image of their product, as opposed to its quality or functionality.

I've used both, and I have a preference for Mac, based on my usage and my computer needs...not based on how cool I look (because really, I couldn't look cool even if I was hanging out with Fall Out Boy) when I carry it around.

I have a Mac laptop and a Dell desktop. The reason my desktop is a PC is because I have to share it with my husband.

As soon as I am able I plan to buy myself a Mac desktop.

My little iBook is far and above the best 'puter I've ever owned. It is fast, economical, intuitive, easy to use, light and portable, totally compatible with all my PC software, and looks cute to boot.

Basicly if you think its a pain to try and teach people how to use a PC try teaching them a Mac. Every five minutes they ask how can I do that I dont have a start button?

Phase 2 of the Contest is a Survivor type host off. The winner will be decided by whoever can broadcast the longest without loosing their voice!!!!

Is there anyone else out here who does PC-based graphic and design?
(Yeah, graphic design for radio. Go figure. ;-)

I got tired of Steve-O and all his "conform to our computer and our operating system and our mp3 player" crap that I went with a machine I could make my self and choose the operating system my self and choose the mp3 player my self. I like choice, So I don't use a Mac. I made the switch from Mac.

They're hard work... Macs - like Earth Girls (me!) are Easy. They just get the job done and stay out of the way.

I use a PC now, but the Mac is a better machine. You can do a world more on a mac than you can on a PC.

I do most of my word processing on a mossy log, with a wise, snarky owl for Spellchecking. I check my e-mail on the stars, and play podcasts on the gentle roar of the tide.

For MySpace, I use a PC.

Why am I not surprised to see so many MacUsers? Teehee!

Of course it is midnight PST. All the Windoze folks are already safely tucked in bed so they can get up early Monday morning and go to work.

The ratio will change when folks get bored at work and check in on the contest.
