Where in the world are Talent Quest Contestants

Submitted by lakeisha on April 30, 2007 - 2:01am. ::

I visited the map section just to check out the demographic of the competition and saw that Chicago has a great affinity for Public radio and definitely alot of Chicagoans are confident that they can add that special something something to the mix of public radio..we have close to 130 checking in for the contest. Where are you and how many of your neighbors are jumping in?

There once was a Bear from north state,
Who lived in north Raleigh of late.
He loves his den home,
Tho far from sea foam.
And blue mountains are heav'n's gate.

Yes, the megalopolis of Aspinwall! Or not.

Just eight miles from downtown Pittsburgh, hard on the shores of the Allegheny River. A lovely, walkable community that was once the refuge for Heinz middle management (this goes back nearly 100 years) who were seeking some respite from the heat and congestion of The Steel City. Though they didn't call it that, back then...

Cheers!

...and not the one that usually comes to mind. Thanks to the O.J. Simpson trial, everyone thinks I live in SoCal Brentwood, but I'm in the San Francisco Bay area one. The locals say to tell people that I live in the, "city not the district." Still, I'd rather be in the district... in fact there are a lot of places I'd rather live (though I love, love, love SF itself - lived there for 5 years). But for now I'm here. Plugging away. Any other enlightened souls living in the other Brentwood?

Cheers,

Howdy! Glad to hear a fellow Austinite in the fray. Don't we live in a beautiful city? I love it. I know of several others from Austin in the contest too. I gues we're just geeky head talkers, NPR freaks. Oh, YEAH!

Yes indeed....I'm deliverin' the humor from down here in the mystical South. And let me tell y'all, the trouble is that most of us here have about a 50 word vocabulary....this includes numbers. But I do try to take time out from eating peoples pets, and sex with my cousins to point my geniticly deformed fingers, and type out an illiterate response or two. By the way, my entry (entertainment) is under the monicker 3D Radio.

Rochester, Minnesota. My map doesn't work well either. It doesn't show me and a very sparce entry from Minnesota, which I can't believe because we're VERY into public radio here.

BTW, I'm from Chicago (only in MN the past 7 years)

Great post. It's quite interesting to see this quest all over the place, tells you how powerful radio truly is and that it certianly has its place. I think there is some great talent in this quest. I wish you all the best. (p.s. care to send a bag of garretts popcorn?)

from my beloved/hated city, to ATL I'd go. Well, among other places. It's home to some of my favorite authors (Pearl Cleage and Tayari Jones). But then again, naw...you all are totally lacking a Garrett's. Thanks for checking in. I'm heading over to check out your entry and vote.

lekeisha...when you mention Atlanta Authors, please remember Stephanie C. Harper (yea, I have a few books too!).

I had the awesome priviledge of meeting Pearl Cleage at her sign and dine and again when I did an event at Spelman College, she is a BEAUTIFUL PERSON...very humble...very approachable.

There are a BUNCH of us in Brooklyn, with very distinct clusters. Looks like a big bunch in Park Slope. Another big bunch in Williamsburg. Looks like I'm the only contestant from Bay Ridge at the moment. I was surprised to see four from Sunset Park all on the same street! My neighbors!

In terms of an independent audio producer community, I would posit that the NYC metro area is the largest in the US.

I'll have to take a look at the map, because there have got to be loads of people from this area! I'm originally from Massachusetts, so it's no surprise to hear a zillion voices from there chiming in.

I am (as are the rest of the Bear clan) from Raleigh (in the Old North State). We've got quite a few entrants in the Triangle...

Hey Raleigh... I'm in Mebane, so one foot in the Triangle, one in the Triad. That's sort of the Chapel Hill area for all you non-Tarheels.

I just moved here from Brooklyn (Park Slope), so I was feeling a bit homesick for my old 'hood when I saw all the NYC folks.
