Round One Details
When Round One opens on April 16th 2007 the fun really begins.
The basic idea is we want lots of entries from lots of people.
Of course it will save us all a lot of time if you're really talented, but that remains to be heard.
The only restriction is you can't have hosted a national radio show before, you have to be at least 18, and you have to be a United States resident (sorry, that's what the lawyers and the grant-givers demand).
Submit 2 Minutes of Audio: Introduce Yourself
To enter Round One you will need to fill out a short application form and then upload your audio entry.
Your audio entry can be up to 2 minutes long, and is all about introducing yourself as a potential public radio host. Reveal your talent, tell us who you are.
You can choose your approach: maybe it's a first-person essay, an interview, an improvised story, a scripted musing, an aircheck from a local show.
It doesn't have to be broadcast quality or professionally mixed. This is about hearing your personality come through.
Questions and Answers
Can I submit something I've already recorded?
Yes, sure. We expect there will be lots of new audio that people create just for this contest, but if you have something from some other thing you've done that you think is your best effort, feel free to upload it. But remember, you're limited to 2 minutes in Round One.
What if I don't know how to create an audio file?
We have links to lots of helpful resources about how to record, mix, edit, and upload audio in easy and accessible ways. You can ask someone to help you, and it's really not that hard these days.
What are the Categories?
We are looking for hosts in three broad categories: Talk, Music, and Entertainment. Pick the category you think most closely fits your interests and abilities. All categories will be judged and voted on together (the three finalists will not necessarily be one from each of the three categories).
How many entries can I submit?
You can only submit one entry for the Round One contest.
What are the criteria for judging?
We are asking the public and our judges to consider creativity, entertainment value, and audience appeal, as well as "hostiness".
Who is voting and judging the entries?
There's a two track process: any registered user on the site can rate each piece once. We also have a panel of judges who will review the top rated entries and choose the 10 finalists.
...won't be announced until June? Dang! I thought it would be announced after May 14th...like the 15th. We have to wait til June! So long!!!
With baited breath...

You say, "Of course it will save us all a lot of time if you're really talented," I am wondering how time will be saved by the entrants being talented?
Will the untalented entries really slow things up?
Please forgive me for asking.
Steve
We can philosophize together until the words fail us.
