what's your life song?
I know, I know, I wish I could think of something more hip, but this song does sum up my life thus far. Plus it always makes me cry to hear the duet with Natalie and her papa. I'm grateful to be alive and for having the awareness to enjoy so many things in spite of visits to the dark night of the soul. As my friend Paul used to say, "it's all good"!

So far, after about 3 minutes of "deep" thought (and no, not a computer), I think the song "Black and White" from the musical Barnum sums up my life to date. I also thought of David Byrne's "Wild, Wild, Life."

I can't believe I've entered! Please listen, vote and comment. Thanks.
My life song would have to be "Katmandu" by Bob Seger.

My life song would have to be "Katmandu" by Bob Seger.
Album version or live?
Please listen, then comment if you are willing, to my 2 minutes of funk (sans funk)

I have both versions, but it is really the sentiment of the song that makes it my choice. I must say, I do have the album version on my iPod -- I guess it must be my favorite.
Oh, I gave a listen to your PRTQ entry and left a comment. I like your comfortable delivery. I think you will do well.
I'd choose the Alphanso Mambo by the Mountain Goats but I've never been divorced, or to Florida. CocoRosie's Werewolf is choice but I don't meet the prerequisite there either. I listen to Rock & Roll by the Velvet Underground once a week, same with Frank Black and the Catholics' If It Takes All Night. But if I have to choose just one song to sum up my entire existence here on planet Earth I'd probably say Easy Lover by Phil Collins. There I go again with the jokes, jk, bff. The answer is Salt of the Earth by the Stones or Bob Dylan's Blues. Honorable mention goes to Good Vibrations by the Beach Boys. I hope this helps.
My life (to date) is a medley:
Cat's Cradle by Harry Chapin
Sixteen Tons by Tennessee Ernie Ford
He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother by The Hollies
Angels Among Us by Alabama
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road by Elton John
Fortunate Son by Creedence Clearwater Revival
If I Were A Rich Man from Fiddler on the Roof
Thank God I'm A Country Boy by John Denver
Tom
I'd say Crazy by Knarls Barkley and also Smiling Faces by the same. I could also list hits from Earth wind and Fire, a few Stevie Wonder songs. But for this period of my life I'll just go with the above two and Christina Aguilara's Beautiful. But then I'd have to say Natasha Bedingfield's Unwritten IF we had to choose just ONE...this is a cruel task:(
"Everything Happens To Me," and my fave version is by Kelly Dickson.
Having grown up in the 50s and come of age in the 60s, "American Pie" is my obvious choice.
Based on your song's running time, realize that you will probably live for a very, very long time. Smart thinking.
"Waltzing Along" - James
It's kind of like a blueprint for humanity.
Commute to work with me - you know you want to.
There's a song by a local Portland, Oregon band called Sounds Like Fun that runs through my head a lot. A sample of the clever lyrics: "How does life go? It's something like a radio, in that I know how it works, but how it works I just don't know. How does life go?"
This upbeat, zen pop band was one of the best I'd heard in a while (local or otherwise). Sadly, they broke up earlier this year :(
"You Can't Always Get What You Want" by The Rolling Stones.
Not my fave song of all time, but most fitting as a life song for me.
I'm not sure which song I would choose as my life song..but it would certainly be a song by British rock band OASIS!

There's advice to live by in there somewhere.
I mean, probably.

Can't choose one, but here's a combination:
The Police's "Sychronicity I."
Carole King's "Only Love is Real."
Supertramp's "The Logical Song."
Suzanne Vega's "Tom's Diner" and "Book of Dreams."
Emerson, Lake & Palmer's "Closer to Believing."
James Taylor's "Secret of Life" and "There We Are."
k.d. lang's "Constant Craving."
All oldies but goodies.

Can't make up my mind between "Can't Get No Satisfaction" from the Stones, "Dying, and Yet in Death Alive" from PDQ Bach's oratorio, THE SEASONINGS - and way too many songs by the Pet Shop Boys.
And now I think I need to lie down with a cold compress. Oi.
