Two interviews
As an interviewer, Cecil makes the interviewee feel at ease, asks the right questions, and makes sure that the pertinent information is covered. (I know since he once interviewed me on the air.) As a journalist, Cecil has depth and breadth of knowledge and experience, sensitivity, and a subtle sense of humor. As an activist, Cecil is tireless, inspiring, and effective. Cecil Bothwell would bring creative energy to any enterprise.
Sure, he sounds good but what distinguishes him from anyone else out there?

I look forward to hearing more.
Having worked for Cecil in the past, I can attest personally to this man's tireless dedication to the truth, to honest and open government, and to a free and responsible (to the public, not the sponsors) media, regardless of political ideology or affiliation. Quite frankly, this man would be an asset to any media organization. He's already an asset to Asheville, NC.
Though it is not obvious from the short excerpt, Cecil is not only a consumate journalist, he's also very funy, with a quirky sense of the absurd. He's also an excellent poet and commentator on life. Not living in Asheville, I have not had the chance to hear his show, but having read his writing for years, I know he has a lot to offer!
Cecil has an understanding of views, news and interviews that will be an asset to Public Radio once he's on board. He has a finger on the pulse of things and he definitely gets my vote.
Cecil has been on the local scene forever, it seems. His knowledge base spans city, county, state, national and world events, plus diverse subjects such as dining out and gardening!
His credentials here include being a journalist for a weekly paper and he has a weekly show on community radio (volunteer).
He has great instincts. He has a knack for asking the right questions and giving the right responses. But his most valuable asset as a radio personality would be his voice. It is as unmistakable as his name and is instantly recognizable. Add this to his other talents and you have someone who would be a valuable part of any radio team, whether it be NPR or any other organization.
Makes you want to hear more. Intelligent. informed and thoughtful interviewer.
A voice that appeals!
Interesting interview subjects. Thorough and thoughtful questioning. Looking forward to tuning in to the new show, "Clean Air with Cecil Bothwell...." It could happen!
...and he can definitely play on a national stage. Intelligent, informed and passionate. For sure, he has my vote. And NPR would be fortunate to have him as a host.
Cecil is informed, informative and inspired. I would readily listen to any program of which he is a part.
I can definitely hear you as another John McLaughlin or Wolf Blitzer. Your piece was very informative, and you definitely did your research for your show. Everyone on this page seems to know who you are. I don't, but I still think you have a lot of talent.
Cecil is a knowledgeable, eloquent, and passionate speaker, with a contemporary style and casual presentation. I've heard him speak many times to large audiences, both in person (without notes) and on the radio. He impresses not only with his comfort level but particularly with his ability to think on his feet.
I've followed Cecil's career for years, and this excellent piece is one more among many. Nice work.
Cecil would be a great talk show host.
Cecil Bothwell would be a great national voice on Public Radio. I've heard him on the radio and in person several times in Asheville, and he's really worth listening to. He is clear, knowledgeable & can be funny when appropriate. When he was invited for the WCQS Friday local issues commentaries, he had researched all the details of the issues and also put them into a bigger picture context while still keeping the audience interested.
Cecil has a wonderful grasp of current affairs as well as outstanding linguistic ability. He'd be a great choice.
Cecil has an excellent voice for radio and sparks the listeners interest. I would like to hear the rest of the commentary and interview. I give him 2 thumbs up!
Mr. Boswell has and is an engaging progressive voice. This brief clip made me want to hear more.
Cecil has a voice that's easy on the ears and he has good knowledge that allows him to ask pertinent questions.
Mr Bothwell sound like a great intellectual voice in the bass range of the wave . If i was you i 'll fish this one for NPR ..
It really pains me to say this, but it is so hard to know anything about you as a host from these two minutes... I need to hear more than an introduction and two asked questions to know if you have hostiness.
Steve
“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” I believe the same thing should be said about thinking.
Very impressive. I found that Mr. Bothwell presents a vivid, captivating, and truly informed voice -- one I hope many more people will have the opportunity to hear. His interview skills seem firmly grounded and dynamic in such a capacity as to reel in the listener for a truly organic radio experience.
