Basstectonics Intro - The music of African Dope heals a nation

So, if I could produce one NPR show what would I focus on?

1. I would highlight one indie record label
2. play lots of their greatest music
3. and tell the story of where they came from and where they are going.

*I took artistic liberties when creating this "story"

While making inroads to bridge cultural gaps, NPR still has a stodgy, middle-age feel that doesn't bring in a younger, more urban demographic. What we have here is a strong attempt at giving NPR a fresh new following with an outlet for something that drives them; music unfiltered and untouched. Unfortunately, the explosion of indie labels has caused many fantastic talents to go unheard or get lost and drowned out in MTV white noise. Websites like myspace.com have been one of the few mediums with which indie labels could share their spirit. NPR needs to take heed and see where this entry can take them.

...but where's the host?

I've listened to quite a few in this quest. People have great stories to tell. Some are easier on the ears then others. Then there are those who sound like every other NPR program/host. This one is blazing and one of the ones I would definitely support! I'm talking street team promotion. This could change the game in NPR...if you were allowed to expose more raw, vibrant, diverse music of any kind. I'm going back to listen again. Great concept all around!
All best to you~

You gave us so little of you, and you sounded great. Good selection for us too, that does show how you think!

I believe the only immorality is doing to another that which we would not have done to ourselves.

I'm with Mr. Stokes on this one.

Oooh, I really, really like this. But is it because I am starved of "World Music" here in Idaho? (That bass! That voice! I oculd listen to tons more of that.) Or am I responding to your show concept, or your voice? Honestly, I don't know. I kind of wish I got to hear a little more about you. I do, however, really like the idea of organizing a music show around music labels. Music fanatics find not only favorite artists, but favorite labels to follow, and covet everything they produce. People just learning about a particular genre of music can learn a lot from parusing a music label's catalogue. It's a winning concept.

Best of luck to you! -Elizabeth

Thanks for your kind words Elizabeth! I think you are right about record labels, they tend to be a scene all to themselves. Whether they are virtual or terrestrial they seam to create a collective sound. If you like one artist from a label there is a good chance there are a few more on that label that you will like too.

The African Dope track I used is "Blackness Anthem" by Teba (feat. Crosby & Red Lion).

I'll be sure to talk more in round 2! (knock on wood)

You've done a great job of pointing me in the direction of a sound I like. I'm going shopping.
