Thinking of entering? Do it! Here's ideas why!

Submitted by jomki on May 9, 2007 - 2:20am. ::

Basically, in the attempt to convince myself to enter, I came up with a lot ideas about this contest and so this became the subject of my entry. A few words of encouragement to those newbies still on the fence, to a newbie who took the plunge. Let's shoot for 1000 entries and make the judges work!

Love, love, love your entry! You have a voice that I don't feel I often hear on radio, yet I want to. You captured my imagination the whole way through -- and I totally fell for the eyeball thing! I hope you make it to round 2! And thanks for the kind words on my entry, too :)

Cheers,

Joseph- I really enjoyed your clip! I can tell that aside from stepping into a big puddle of sassy every morning, you are a very hosty person. Best of luck!

I like the way you used the eyeballs reference to open and close the piece and your reason for structuring it that way. You held my interest and made think. A clever, charming and memorable entry. Well done.

Good luck.

you are a fellow freak. For that alone I enjoyed your piece. And clearly you are way smarter than me because I didn't get the haiku thing and all that. I simply liked your honesty, your tone and bass of your voice and your obvious concern for human kind. We all thank you, you witty thing you.

Where have you been hiding all of my contest life, jomki? Spectacular entry - superb writing, excellent vocal delivery style, wonderful set of pipes, and a great sense of humor. PLUS, methinks you are a psychology person? The eyeball thing you're describing is EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing)- to the layman, it sounds like hocus pocus, but as one who's had EMDR therapy, I can vouch it's the real deal.

Okay (and I'm ticking this off my fingers as I type - now THAT'S a trick) - you can host, you can write, you're smart, you're funny, you're well-versed in a number of areas.... seems like you have what it takes to go straight to the top.

(And you can write a pretty damned good limerick to boot - you have rhythm and meter down perfectly. And I'm fussy about these things...)

You've got a gift for comic timing; the throat-clearing half-beat after the gushing adoration for the judges, the reference to "stea ... listening to" later entries... funny, funny stuff, and nicely subtle.

Of course, as a later-entrant I have no idea what you're implying about advantages and disadvantages. Ahem.

Anyhow, your personality shines through this. I found it a charming piece, and one of the few at which I laughed out loud. Good show!

Is it real popcorn or the idea of popcorn we would be marketing? Because if it is the "idea" of popcorn we might really be on to something. Very low overhead -- unless that means we have to put the buyers up in a cave overnight so they can experience it. I think that should be their problem, don't you? Would that hold up in a court of law?

Oh man, I am seeing a tie-in with that new Cave Man movie. And laughing our way to the bank.

By the way, you PRTQ idea-stealers, this posting constitutes copyright of the Plato's Cave brand.

If this were the Public Haiku Talent Quest, we would all have to back away slowly, bowing to the master. This is the best use of Haiku I have ever seen/heard/read or smelled.

And type on the pot!

into doing the bidding of lesser men than you. Anyways you needn't have bothered. I was pre-sold by the title you came up with for the Quaker Oats guy's movie "The Wrath of the Quaker Wraith!" I suppose you put something subliminal in that too that caused me to click on your link...or maybe that's why I went to buy popcorn and Junior Mints right before sitting down to listen to your entry? Either way it's all very tasty.

Submitted by mavis j on May 22, 2007 - 5:08pm.

I have it in writing . . . there is a subliminal message hidden over at the Quaker Oats guy's site: "ra heQua ith!" which in ancient Atlantean means popcorn and Junior Mints. Who knew? Warning: do not go to the Quaker Oats guy's site if you are on a diet or if you are more than 10 minutes away from a 7-11.

Submitted by mavis j on May 23, 2007 - 11:26pm.

Sorry to go on and on with this but as per your wanting to take back the popcorn due to popcorn intolerance over at the artsy non-profit cinema --I don't think you can take back something suggested subliminally with a liminal message. I think you might have to suggest the reverse subliminally in order to actually take back the popcorn. And it can only be the urge for popcorn not yet consumed. Or popped. I think. You know, the Plato's Cave brand of popcorn. The idea of popcorn. Because the other popcorn suggested subliminally -- the subliminally-suggested popcorn that I popped --and didn't burn in the microwave, that is -- is gone. Eaten.
