I Am On The Phone

In my entry I call people ask them if they'll have a conversation on the radio. If they say yes, I just find out about their lives. It can be funny, sad, or whatever. I'm fascinated by people and what makes them different, but also fascinated by the moments that connect us and make us all the same.

I could see this going in some very cool directions. This kind of thing up front and then eventually each show would lead into a longer conversation where we'd get to the "funny, sad or whatever" you mentioned. Good luck!

This was weird and wonderful and maybe a just a teensy bit alarming. But great radio!

You're on air now, right?

I would love to hear your take on my entry, Timing Is - Everything.

Good luck!

I think 'better' questions might be in order, but i found myself creeping closer to my monitor wondering IF you would get someone and WHAT they would have to say to you.

Nicely produced, too.

The questions you're asking are the kind of things one asks to a five year-old after his day at school. It's really boring content.

Not a bad idea, but perhaps better served as a semi-scripted comedy thing? The comPLETEly random nature of the show is quite attractive, though, I must say! Who will you get?!
Great proposal. Try mine!

Cold calls on the radio. I think my local station growing up did one every Friday morning, or something like that. But anyway, it's always a fun concept. More importantly, though, it highlights your "hostiness," your ability to get people to open up about themselves, in a very fundamental way. I like how you handled the "obscene phonecall bit." You turned what could have been a bad situation into something funny. You probably make these people's day and gave them a story they'll tell over and over again, "remember when that random guy called me to be on the radio?"

Good job and good luck.

John, of course this has been done a million times on a zillion 'morning zoo crew' commercial radio stations, but you've brought an entirely fresh sound to calling people up on the radio. You've really created something engaging out of nothing new, and it's the power of your personality, your persuasive candor, and your hostiness that made this work. I hope you get more opportunities to talk to people, and that I get to listen.

John,

I hope I'm not the only one who finds this engaging.
Call enough people and like panning for gold you're bound to find some nuggets.
