Mo Lotman-Off the Grid

Submitted by molotman on May 9, 2007 - 2:19pm. ::

I thought the best way to demonstrate my abilities to be a host was to go out and be a host. This entry is a description as well as a sample of an idea I have for a new program which would bring innovative ideas--both mundane and grandiose--to new audiences.

Your ideas may be "Off the Grid" but they are on base for holding the attention of existing public radio audiences. Good luck!

you sound like a professional...good job...

But this sounds like a really good show, and it sounds like you've managed to, on the one hand, come up with something that has the NRP 'flavor' while on the other, come up with something that sounds fresh... The show sounds good, the voice sounds good, and if I heard this on drive time I'd be wanting to tune in...

So...way beyond competent, to these ears...

Also sounds like you have editing chops on top of your vocal skills...

Well done.

Mo,

If you get this show onto the air in my area on Saturday mornings, I'll be there to listen to it. Terrific job.

An awesome piece of work here, Mo! (I voted a while ago, but hadn't commented yet.)

The concept was cool when you were describing it at the party, and it came out even cooler than I'd imagined. Tight editing, great voices and concepts... I'd say you've got a winner, here. :)

Glad you liked it! Especially coming from a guy as smart as you, I appreciate the positive feedback.

First, your radio show production and tone was wonderful, pitch perfect. Let me say also that there's another show that is doing the same thing called DIY in Portland. I'm not trying to create a rivalry but both your show and the DIY show are neck in neck and I really can't decide which one is better. Both of the shows are great. I hope either of you win and if one gets a show, I hope you consider the other. I can definitely say this format will go through.

Submitted by molotman on May 19, 2007 - 11:51pm.

Thanks a lot for your supportive comments! I checked out the DIY show--it sounds great. I think there is a small difference between our two ideas (part of which I just did not have time in my clip to articulate well). One thing is that I would have people with ideas on the program, not just DIY-ers, which is to say, if you had a good solution to provide universal health care or end homelessness, and it had never been tried before, I would want you on the program to start a new conversation (that's the grandiose part). But I think in either case it would make a great show.

I want to hear more! This sounds like the perfect Sunday night show when I want some quality entertainment that can make me laugh and think at the same time.

Interesting, entertaining, and funny too! I can't believe two minutes went by already. Can you do fifty-eight more minutes now?

Sounded like I had my radio tuned to NPR. Total pleasure. Nice job, and good luck!

This is SUPER professional! Really well done, great little music intro, well-recorded interview voices. Off The Grid sounds like a winner to me! Do a podcast, I'll listen!
Good luck! Try mine!

Mo, I really enjoyed listening to your first official Off-The-Grid show! It's as if you already won or something! I thought I had accidentally tuned in NPR. Truly uncanny.

Wow Mo, this sounds great. Your voice is friendly and warm, your personality smart and funny. I love the "off the grid" idea too - I bet there are tons of everyday people with great ideas out there.

Good show, good show! Splendid. Mr. Lotman, you are indeed a voice talent and we are all looking forward to hearing you on our FM dial in the very near future.

Mo, you have a voice and a style made for radio, and a brilliant newsy-entertainy-community-building idea with this show! If "This American Life" and "That's Incredible!" had a baby, it would be "Off the Grid."

Mo, Terrific program idea. Thoughtful, engaging, renewable. I'd plug into this! Get in touch if you win. I'll be one of your primary contributors.

Love the pitch, but not enough in this about you.

And, I love weirdos. They're funnier and more interesting that 'normal' people. The more weirdos the better! ;)
