Can I submit .wav file?

Submitted by hechts on May 10, 2007 - 2:49pm. ::

I have software on my computer to create a .wav file of around 1 minute in length - and no time to get anything else before the deadline. Can I submit a file of that type? If not, can someone tell me how to get free software quickly to create the type of file I need to create?

I found this information after searching the help section for "convert to mp3".

There are two separate steps once you have install Itunes on your computer.

First, go to the Edit menu, click on Preferences and go to the Advanced Tab, and the Importing sub-menu Tab. Under Import Using: pull down menu, click on MP3 Encoder. Under the Setting: pull down menu, click on High Quality (128 kbps). Now, click Ok until you see the main Itunes window.

Now, go to the File menu, click on Import, and you will see a new window open. Just navigate to your .wav file and click on it. It will appear in the File Name box. Now just click on open. Itunes will convert it and the file will appear at the bottom of your library as an mp3 file.

REMEMBER to change the Import Using: setting back to AAC Encoder to import music for your Ipod.

**If you decide to use the Audacity recording and editing software (mentioned on this website and discussed elsewhere in this forum), you can download a plug-in that allows you to export files as mp3 once you've finished recording. I was able to get this software downloaded and up and running in one hour, including completing the tutorial.

Hello,

We can only accept MP3 submissions, with settings of 128kbps and 44.1Khz.

You can convert from WAV to MP3 pretty easily with iTunes, which you can download here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

I have i-tunes on my computer. I can play my .wav file. I don't see how to save as mp3. If you are willing to respond again, I'd be most appreciative...

On windows, go to your "My Documents" folder, go to "My Music", go to "iTunes", go to "iTunes Music", and from there you'll have to root around to get your piece. Tons of factors determine where it is in your "iTunes Music" folder.

Once you find the .mp3 file, Cntrl-drag it to your desktop. You can then use the PRTQ web upload page/entry page from there.

If you're on a Mac with OSX, you can open any window on your hard drive, then click on your user folder in the left of the window, then open music, then open iTunes, then open iTunes Music. Your file will be in there...

Open the .wav file with iTunes. iTunes should "import" the file. (You might have already done this.)

In iTunes, go to preferences.
In the preferences window, click on the Advanced tab.
In advanced, click on the Importing tab (appears under the main tabs).
Choose Import Using "MP3 Encoder".
Choose Setting: "Good Quality (128 kbps).
Click the OK button in the preferences window.
Locate your piece in the iTunes Music listing.
Right-click the piece, and choose Convert Selection to MP3.

This will put it in your file system as the right kind of MP3 file.

Hope this helps!
