State: RI
Bio: I have been many wheres and done much of that. Teaching, media making, punk rock, MIT Media Lab, cleaning animal cages and doing live animal demos with the big snake and the reluctant loris.
What's your secret talent?: Making really strange noises with strange electric guitars.
What sound is most characteristic of where you live?: Screeching tires. Sometimes, shrieking parents. All mixed to a lot of birdsong. Welcome to RI!
What's your favorite sound memory?: I crawled into a concrete silo, part of an abandoned munitions plant, built late in the game for WW2, outside of Minneapolis. I don't think it ever went on line. Odd structures were scattered around the site. I believe the silo was used to create shot -- molten metal would drop from the top, form spheres, and collect in the bottom. Don't know for sure. The space had the most incredible acoustics. I did some vocalizing and found resonant frequencies that allowed my untrained voice to go on forever, with seemingly no effort. I felt as if I were floating, suspended in a space where details such as time and oxygen fell away. I made recordings but of course, nothing can capture that rapturous physical sense of connection.
