When I'm not listening to the radio, I'm listening to music. When I'm not listening to music, I'm producing radio piece. When I'm not producing a radio piece, I'm singing in my chorus. When I'm not singing in my chorus, I'm playing viola. When I'm not playing viola, I'm talking to people. When I'm not talking to people, I'm whistling. I don't abhor silence. I just have overactive ears.

What's your favorite public radio show?

Hands down, This American Life. But then, I never miss the Metropolitan Opera Broadcast.

What's your secret talent?

Seeing things in a unique way and really feeling things.

What song is stuck in your head right now, you know, a music wedgie?

Hahaha... the one I'm using in my radio piece... All I'll say is it's Animal Collective.

What sound is most characteristic of where you live?

Drunken roommates?

What's your favorite sound memory?

I stopped and listened to bells ringing for 10 full minutes. I figured out that the interval was a fifth. But then I realized why it sounded so mournful. The two tones were making a minor third resonate. Then I heard the sixth and the seventh--presumably, other bells vibrating. The rhythm would syncopate and then re-align, back and forth, predictably. The exhaust on the bus next to me sounded like tapping on a snare drum. And when it took off, it sounded like cellists sliding up their strings.
