Bio

Active blogger, to say the least....I volunteer for Global Voices Online writing about the Turkish and Kurdish blogosphere. I work in the Outreach Program at the Middle East Center at the University of Utah, where we seek to educate all about the Middle East. Check out our podcast on iTunes, search under "Middle East Outreach Podcast". And of top of all of that I am in my last semester (hello thesis!) of my Masters in Applied Linguistics.

What's your favorite public radio show?

This American Life is high on my list...but I am addicted to my daily dose of Star Date.

What's your secret talent?

I have this amazing ability to get people to trust me, and I can manage to find out the strangest things about people in a short amount of time. I would be the perfect spy, except that I am too friendly.

What song is stuck in your head right now, you know, a music wedgie?

Istanbul by Dario Mareno. Think of the They Might Be Giants version of Istanbul except that it is a big band song and mostly in French.

What sound is most characteristic of where you live?

The ticking of the wall clocks, the birds outside, and the occasionally loud thumping of my neighbors running up the stairs.

What's your favorite sound memory?

For four summers, I did an archaeological dig in Southeast Turkey. My favorite sound memory is receiving a CD in the mail from a friend on the dig...and on that CD were two of my workmen singing traditional Kurdish folksongs.

Which station do you listen to most?
KCPW Salt Lake City
