Bio

I am a writer, a mother. I have three small children, a wonderful husband.

I have a BA in Classics--Greek and Latin from the University of Florida. I have an MA in Literature from NYU, an MS in early childhood education from Sunbridge College.

I studied in Germany and France. I lived and worked in South Africa and Niger. I worked for the Rainforest Alliance in NYC and I taught high school English in Brooklyn and on Long Island.

I've landed here in sunny Austin, loving it.

Fresh Air, Car Talk, Morning Edition, All Things Considered, This American Life.

What's your secret talent?

I speak several languages, including a Zarma--a local language in Niger, West Africa. I can knit and play the violin.

What sound is most characteristic of where you live?

The sounds of children playing and laughing.

My grandmother singing old florida tunes.
