I'm a hopeless public radio junkie excited by the possibilities of making radio listening more interactive, participatory, and non-linear. In my spare time I like to incite whimsey, mischief, and great conversation around the dinner table. Equally pulled by art, audio, cooking and mediating.

What's your favorite public radio show?

This American Life. No, wait--it's Wait Wait Don't Tell Me. I've also been tuning in to On the Media lately, I dig their cheekiness. A shout out to The Sound of Young America; Jesse Thorn's really been taking off! And I miss staying up late to hear Joe Frank's "Work in Progress" on my local NPR station. He was my first Public Radio love.

What's your secret talent?

I play a mean trump, mouth harp, jew's harp, whatever you want to call it. Gaboing gaboinga!

What song is stuck in your head right now, you know, a music wedgie?

Beirut, "Elephant Gun," on the Lon Gisland EP. The warbling! Those trumpets! And The Books, "Lemon of Pink." The way they blend music and found sound makes my brain itch.

What sound is most characteristic of where you live?

Distant waves, occasional sounding of a buzzer from the farm across the street, and, when the wind picks up, the stray piece of corrogated tin that bangs against the roof of one of their outbuildings. It sounds a little like rivetted jeans tumbling in the dryer.

What's your favorite sound memory?

Walking to one of the Eastside beaches in Santa Cruz on a thick foggy night, the large pipe sections of the sand dredger creaked in the harbor mouth. The lapping seawater, the groaning of rusting metal, the tapping of gull's feet along the pipeline...I felt like I was in Tom Waits' ears.

Which station do you listen to most?

my local NPR affiliate, KUSP-FM (I do a music show there Mondays 11am-1pm which you can hear live at www.kusp.org)
