Bio

Born in Cali, Colombia, Lily Percy first embarked on her career as a moviegoer (and lover) through weekly Saturday late night viewings of the Marx Brothers, Spielberg and Cantinflas' films with her family. A former NPR Arts & Information Desk intern, Percy has spent the better half of her adult life trying to reconcile her four loves: writing, movies, music and radio. Percy is a contributing writer for MovieMaker Magazine, a staff writer for JIVE Magazine, as well as the editor of her own online magazine, Pictures and Frames. She has also produced radio segments for NPR's "Latino USA," WNYC's "Soundcheck" and "Epicentro Politico," a Spanish-language news program based in Washington, D.C.

What's your favorite public radio show?

"This American Life" would be my absolute favorite show, with WNYC's "Soundcheck," KCRW's "The Treatment," "Fresh Air," "Studio 360" and "Speaking of Faith" tied after it.

What's your secret talent?

My secret talent is that I can curl my lip a la Elvis.

What song is stuck in your head right now, you know, a music wedgie?

Rufus Wainwright's "Do I dissapoint you?" which has been playing on a loop in my brain since I bought the album on Tuesday.

What sound is most characteristic of where you live?

The sound of children playing in the street. That and the sound of Hebrew songs as I live in between two Orthodox families.

What's your favorite sound memory?

My favorite sound would have to be the sound of gospel songs. Having been raised in a home that also served as our church, I would often wake up and go to sleep hearing gospel songs. To this day they carry with them a sense of feeling safe and at home that nothing else has really been able to match.

Which station do you listen to most?

WNYC, although I download so many podcasts that it doesn't really matter anymore.
