Bio

I'm twenty five years old, and either over-educated or under-employed. I suspect it's the latter. I've got as many facets to my personality as I have tones to my voice. Sometimes I'm jarring and I move mountains. Sometimes I'm sweet and I read my mother to sleep. Most of the time I take joy in the telling of good stories over and over again.

What's your favorite public radio show?

Wait Wait Don't Tell Me. Listening to the podcast online is my Monday morning treat at work.

I'm beginning to get into the archives of Fresh Air as well.

What's your secret talent?

If I told you, it would cease to be secret, thus making it more difficult for me to wield it.

What song is stuck in your head right now, you know, a music wedgie?

I haven't got a music-mental wedgie at the moment, but thanks for asking. Once in high school band we were learning Stars and Stripes Forever and I got the piccolo solo stuck in my head for three weeks. It was horrible.

What sound is most characteristic of where you live?

Mine is a family-friendly neighborhood. Whenever the weather permits (and sometime even when it doesn't), I hear the sound of my neighbors' kids hooting and hollering. The family on the corner has a very enthusiastic golden retriever.
One hears the sounds that herald the arrival of what I affectionately term the Middle School Bicycle Mafia. If there is ill-considered mischief to be perpetrated; if a bee hive needs to be attacked with a tennis racquet, you can count on the Bike Mafia to do the job. Loudly.

What's your favorite sound memory?

I spent the fall of 2003 in Madrid. Of the many things that I missed, I was shocked to find that I missed my mother and brother so badly. I'd spent the preceeding four years away at college, so why should an ocean make a difference?
I was in a shopping mall having a not great afternoon when I heard the music playing; it was the Flower Duet from Lakme. My mother is a librarian by day and a singer/viking superhero by night. She had performed the Flower Duet before and it was one of my favorites. I was so etherially uplifted to have this sweet reminder of my mother so far from home.

Which station do you listen to most?
WHYY Philadelphia in the car and NPR.org at work
