In this round, people seem to be showing their production skills and pitching ideas. I'm sticking to the basics so my voice and my heart can be heard.
I can produce a fabulous piece and I have a notebook full of ideas to pitch- but I don't believe this is the time to do it.
I know the playing field here at TalentQuest is far from being level because there are so many pro's jumping in here with the newbies too.
Not everyone has the same resources but we all have our dreams.

If nobody sees a "hostiness" factor in me, then I doubt they have any use for my ideas or opinions and I don't want to waste anyones time.
So, if I make it to the round where it's appropriate to give that energy, you'll be amazed at what I have to offer. Nuff said.
Now here's my background.

I am a giant can of creative mixed nuts:
musician and recording artist, improv comic, video producer, tv junkie, NPR nerd, Mac geek, Volkswagen fanatic and aspiring comedy writer.

I love all things indie and stongly support indie artists.

I grew up on a farm in the middle of nowhere. Just my dad and I. My radio and records were my best friends. I became obsessed with creative people. While all my friends were watching cartoons, I was studying liner notes, credits and magazines. I taught myself to connect the "whose who" of tv, radio and music. (All things that were branded "unproductive" if you were a Baptist farm kid.)
I kept these things to myself because I was surrounded by people that were not very cultured and even worse than that, they would burn records at church youth group bonfires. I can't count how many times I burned all my favorites and replaced them by saving my lunch money!
In my brain there was a constant soundtrack being composed or column being written about even the most mundane tasks. (Still is to this day.)
When I was 9, I got a reel to reel tape recorder for my birthday and started making my own "shows".
I wrote plays, did improv (before I even knew what it was), reenacted tv shows, did impressions of teachers, movie stars and people at church.
I conducted interviews with everyone and everything I could find. (dolls, animals, stalks of corn...)
I would tape Monty Python every time it came on PBS and use bits of it as bumper pieces on my own comedy recordings. But it was my "hidden microphone" pieces that used to get me grounded.
I would put the recorder in the kitchen then get my dad REALLY mad and play it back. That's where I learned, death is easy- comedy is hard.

But the best thing about my life today is being the mom of a creative kid and being married to my soul mate, both of them are my biggest fans!

In my spare time I'm part of a co-op of friends that lovingly run a little art and coffee house in the trendy part of the city. This is where the creatively ADD come to let it all hang out! There, I hold the proud title of "iMix Princess" and talent scout!

For my "real job" I work as a Health Unit Coordinator in a local hospice unit. It's the most rewarding job you can imagine. Besides my paid position there, I volunteer in the kids bereavement program. I lost my mother to cancer when I was 9 so I can relate.

I am the original "idea hamster"! I can't write my ideas fast enough some days. It's a blessing and a curse. I'm always looking for opportunities to use them.

I've completed 1 teleplay / pilot script and 1 rock opera. Someday I hope all of the spec scripts I write and send out will help me find the right person to pitch those projects to.

As for my radio background, I have been on the radio a few wonderful times as a guest dj and volunteer on my local NPR affiliate, and was involved in a ClearChannel project in 2005. (Just enough to catch the radio bug!)

Meanwhile, I continue to support public radio world wide and in my own backyard. I'm a contributing writer for a weekly e-newsletter produced by WYSO dj "Rev. Cool", local music icon and host of the world music show "Around The Fringe" now celebrating it's 25th. year on the air!

What's your favorite public radio show?

World Cafe' (Sorry Ira, they only let me pick one and I'm trying to stick to the rules!)

Yikes that was hard, I listen to public radio approx. 40 hours a week. (no less than 38)

What's your secret talent?

Predicting the correct ringtones of strangers in public.
I can also predict what websites people are surfing in Starbucks. (yikes- am I passing judgement or just very intuitive?)

What song is stuck in your head right now, you know, a music wedgie?

"I Hate Camera" by The Bird and The Bee.

What sound is most characteristic of where you live?

Clicking laptop keyboards.

What's your favorite sound memory?

Laugh tracks (the cheesier the better- especially when it sounds like it's in a small speaker or a can.)
When there's laughter, I feel love.

Which station do you listen to most?
WYSO NPR Yellow Springs / Dayton, Ohio
