Bio: Print reporter for 20 years following career in construction industry. Former managing editor of alt weekly, founding editor of environmental journal, nationally syndicated column for 10 years. Currently volunteer as host on community radio station. Have three books in print and another pending. My other car is a canoe and I share my home with three cats named Havoc, Clare and Chomsky.
What's your favorite public radio show?: Kind of a toss-up between This American Life and Prairie Home Companion. The first so edgey, the second so sweet and schmaltzy, but increasingly political as Keillor waxes irate with the administration.
What's your secret talent?: I'm a representational painter and wood carver.
What song is stuck in your head right now, you know, a music wedgie?: "Fountain of Sorrow" by Jackson Browne, particularly the lines: "I was looking through some photographs I found inside a drawer, I was taken by a photograph of you."
That is so damn artful.
What sound is most characteristic of where you live?: wind in the trees
What's your favorite sound memory?: barred owls calling in the mountains, "who cooks for you, who?"
