Bio

I work at the University of Washington Libraries as a film preservation specialist. I spend my days watching old home movies, weird documentaries and overly earnest industrial films, trying to preserve them for future generations to enjoy. It took a while to find my calling, however. I started out my life as an actor, spent years in the catering industry, dabbled in letterpress printing, and ultimately stumbled upon documentary filmmaking and audio production. I realized that I'm not going to be the next Barbara Koppell or Roger Moore, so it made more sense for me to try and preserve rather than produce. I created an audio piece as part of the Jack Straw Artist Support Program that appeared on Transom called "The Day My Mother's Head Exploded." It was featured on transom.org and on RadioLab out of WNYC. I've been trying to create more audio ever since but got distracted when I became a mom two and a half years ago. That was when I embarked on an amazing journey that has opened up an entirely new world for me.

What's your favorite public radio show?

Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me and On The Media are two of my favorites.

What's your secret talent?

I was a mime in college. A white-faced-makeup-Marcel-Marceau-black-and-white-outfit-wearing-fulll-fledged mime. Sigh.

What song is stuck in your head right now, you know, a music wedgie?

The theme song to "Peep and the Big Wide World" by Keb Mo.

What sound is most characteristic of where you live?

Kids playing in their backyards.

What's your favorite sound memory?

Dominic's laughter. The sheer joy contained in his giggle is a constant reminder to find the beauty, the fun, the wonder in this world, in this life.

Which station do you listen to most?
KUOW in Seattle
