I'm host and head writer for a radio variety show called "Live Wire!" that airs on Oregon Public Broadcasting. We record live at the Aladdin Theater in Portland with musical guests, interviews with people we'd want at our next dinner party (filmmakers, authors, political activists, doughnut makers, God), and original sketch comedy.
- What's your favorite public radio show?
I have to be honest - I like Live Wire. I know there's that thing where you're not supposed to vote for yourself, but shouldn't you like the thing you work on the most? Wouldn't it be weird if you didn't? Aside from that, I love This American Life (of course), Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, and the interview April Baer just did with Willy Vlautin on Oregon Territory. - What's your secret talent?
I don't have enough talents to hide any of them.
- What song is stuck in your head right now, you know, a music wedgie?
The catchiest pop tune in years - Reluctant Diety by Fernando Viciconte. Can't. Get. It. Out.
- What sound is most characteristic of where you live?
Car tires swishing through the wet streets.
- What's your favorite sound memory?
When I was 5 we lived in Shaker Heights, Ohio and my parents had the best group of friends of their lives. They would have parties that lasted long into the night, and the music, conversation and my mother's laughter would waft upstairs to my bedroom and lull me to sleep.
- Which station do you listen to most?
- Oregon Public Broadcasting, of course!
