Nikki Stern is a communications consultant and writer whose essays have appeared in the New York Times, Newsweek and USA Today. After her husband was killed on 9/11, she left her public relations position to serve as executive director of Families of September 11, a national organization for families affected by the terrorist attacks. The recipient of a 2005 (Search For) Common Ground award, she has participated in forums dealing with conflict resolution here and abroad. Additionally, Nikki spent a number of years as a professional musician in New York, a time she remembers fondly
- What's your favorite public radio show?
All Things Considered and, somewhat locally, Marty Moss-Coane, who is insightful, well-researched and takes her work seriously but not herself.
- What's your secret talent?
I have a very decent singing voice
- What song is stuck in your head right now, you know, a music wedgie?
the stupid theme from "Dancing with the Stars" (sad, isn't it?)
- What sound is most characteristic of where you live?
birds...well, and some traffic from Route 1 if the wind blows the wrong way
- What's your favorite sound memory?
wow - a tossup between the blue jay that lived outside my bedroom when I was a kid and the sound of waves crashing against the shore

- WHYY and WNYC (Princeton is right in the middle)
