Bio

As for employment and primary function, I am a lighting designer (modern dance, mostly), a sometime librarian, and a novelist. Might be about to be an assistant for an itinerant Socratic teacher who, being blind, needs someone to tape-record Gramsci for him. Way cool.

I live in a co-op in Berkeley, where I'm the social manager and brewmaster.

Teaching myself to cook. I'm saving up for an Usuba bocho and a whetstone-- the goal is to get good enough to cut cucumber slices you could read through.

What's your favorite public radio show?

I don't much listen to A Prairie Home Companion any more (I'm never around when it's on), but I still love me my News from Lake Wobegon.

Nowadays, All Things Considered.

What's your secret talent?

Very bendy arms. I can clasp my hands, step through them, and bring them up over my head to where they started from without letting go.

What song is stuck in your head right now, you know, a music wedgie?

Fox in the Snow, by Rasputina.

What's your favorite sound memory?

The toilet on the second floor of my house, as it flushes, produces this drawn-out arpeggiated whistle whose cause is unknown to us.
