Simon Cowell is really a guy named Josh Jackson. Several stories exist about Josh. One has it that he was named for the Scottish word "joss," meaning to push against or jostle. Another theory is that he is early American, a combination of "joke" and "bosh" (the latter meaning "foolish talk)."
Whatever his origins, the popularity of Josh is largely due to a public radio pioneer, humorist and writer Josh Billings, whose misspelled words, humorous grammar, and literary puns predated both wireless telegraphy and the internet. Josh must have been able to see the future media culture. He said, "About the most originality that any writer can hope to achieve honestly is to steal with good judgment."- What's your favorite public radio show?

- What's your secret talent?
I am a master of the revels.
- What song is stuck in your head right now, you know, a music wedgie?
The Mister Softee jingle - http://www.mistersoftee.com/music.asp
I love to sit on my terrace, dream about orange sherbet Push-Up Pops, and invent lyrics to this song. Typically, the words have nothing to do with ice cream...
- What sound is most characteristic of where you live?
Sirens. Fire trucks, police, ambulances. Not the mythological ones. I suppose they are just as hypnotic and alluring, if you're a lawyer.
- What's your favorite sound memory?
Hearing my daughter enter this world (yeah yeah yeah...cue the weeping), followed immediately by the sound of breaking glass, which I later discovered was sound of my ego shattering.
