Bio

Currently, middle-aged, somewhat "quirky" Technical Support Engineer (fancy word for customer support dude), working for a high-tech firm in Austin, Texas. Married 15+ years, with child.

Grew up between two cities: Las Vegas, New Mexico (where my mother worked as an Art/Art History professor for the University of New Mexico) and Austin, Texas (where my grandmother lived).

Graduated from Travis High School, in the upper 25% GPA of my graduating class. I know, not particularly noteworthy, but is there anything particularly noteworthy about high school?).

Obtained a Bachelors of Arts degree in Computer Science, with a Minor in Japanese Language.

Spent a year abroad in Japan, at a foreign language college called 'Kansao Gaigokugo Daigaku', located in a small town called 'Hirakata-shi', located exactly on the middle of the Kansai rail line that runs between Osaka and Kyoto.

Spent several years moving from one 'high-tech' job to another, until finally settling in a "Level 3" Customer Support position at a global high-tech company in Austin, Texas.

What's your favorite public radio show?

Kai Risdal, the current host for 'Marketplace', which I am pretty much 'forced' to listen to on my drive home.

Well, not 'forced'... Mr. Risdal and the topics on 'Marketplace' are certainly more engaging that any of the music channels I can listen too.

What's your secret talent?

Not much of a "secret"... It is probably the basis of of my entry into the contest: I consider myself a "Respository of Useless Information", information that is interesting, but ultimately useless in living our day-to-day lives.

I can expound on a huge number of subjects, as a "Jack of all Topics, Master of None".
These include, but are not limited by:
Cartoons, classical music, comic books, computers, console games, Science Fiction and Fantasy, electronica music, graphic novels ('Return of the Dark Knight' and 'Kingdom Come', anyone?), instrumental music, Japan, Japanese culture, Japanese Manga, Japanese Anime, martial arts, mmogs (Massively Multiplayer Online Games), mmorpgs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games), table-top games (Talisman, Monopoly, Chez Geek, Munchkin), role-playing games (AD&D, Champions, Call of Cthulhu, Cyberpunk 2020, GURPS), nanotechnology, neo-paganism, novels, PC games, philosophy, psychology, reading, slack, swimming, Tai Chi Chuan, Taoism, technology, writing.

What song is stuck in your head right now, you know, a music wedgie?

"Renegades of Funk" - Rage Against the Machine

What sound is most characteristic of where you live?

Mocking birds... You can tell it is a mocking bird, because several different bird calls appear to come from the same source.
And then when you hear a pretty good rendition of a standard car alarm being done by a bird, you -know- it *has* to be a mocking bird.

What's your favorite sound memory?

Music, has always been my most fond sound memories... From the classical music station (KMFA 89.5 FM) my grandmother always listened too, the 70's rock that my brothers and sister enjoyed, the 80's rock that got into as a high school teenager, to the instrumental/electronica music that I favor today.

Which station do you listen to most?
KUT 90.5 FM, KROX 101.5 FM
