- What's your favorite public radio show?
If I have to choose a favorite, then 'Talk of the Nation' is my favorite radio show because it makes such a sustained, earnest attempt to give callers (what seems to me to be) the greatest opportunity to steer the discussion, whether by making insightful comments on the topics or by asking tough questions of the guests.
- What song is stuck in your head right now, you know, a music wedgie?
Fortunately, songs don't get stuck in my head anymore: I trained myself to eliminate them after a particularly bad "wedgie" episode (three days straight) with the musical Oliver! (the song was "Consider Yourself") when I was a kid practicing for an audition.... I guess that means I learned to "pull the wedgie out?" (It's amazing to me that I still like that song.)
- What sound is most characteristic of where you live?
For three seasons, the most characteristic sound of where I live is rustling leaves as wind passes through the trees. In winter, it's the sound of tires spinning on snow-covered roads as cars climb the small incline on the street where I live.
- What's your favorite sound memory?
I have many favorites! What comes to mind right now is my first experience with a hydrophone: listening to orca whales mewing (like kittens!) just off the coast of Washington state.
