Bio

Dr. Fleming is an educator and licensed therapist. She was in higher education for 10 years, teaching and conducting research, before moving to Chicago in 2002 to take a position at Northwestern University, where she continues to hold faculty rank. In 2006, she stepped down from her full-time position at Northwestern to become the Executive Director of North Shore Wellness Services, a private organization on Chicago's north shore dedicated to clinical counseling and related services, education, and research. Dr. Fleming is married and has two children.

What's your favorite public radio show?

I can't decide between Wait Wait Don't Tell Me and Car Talk. Love them both. When I lived outside of Cincinnati,Ohio, there was a mystery theatre show on the local NPR -- it played the old radio mysteries and that was my secret weekly indulgence.

What's your secret talent?

I can remember lyrics to songs I haven't heard in 20 years. It's a very strange party trick. Now if I could only remember where I left my keys...

What song is stuck in your head right now, you know, a music wedgie?

Well, now I've got obscure Bee Gee songs in my head, thanks to the earlier question. "I just want to be your everything... " I'll give you 5 bucks if you can displace them right now.

What sound is most characteristic of where you live?

The sound of the Metra whistle can be heard all over my home town, signaling the delivery of commuters to and from downtown Chicago...
The sound of sliding minivan doors, as kids are dropped off and picked up from school...
The sound of the Arthur theme song, coming from my family room...

What's your favorite sound memory?

The sound of the beach...
