Born in London, UK and raised on a daily diet of BBC clearly articulated English before they allowed their standards to slip.

Resident in Canada for many years, learned to despise CBC as a very parochial service with a strong anti-American, anti-British streak. Their Radio-Canada sister is basically 'separatiste', advocating for the independence of the province of Quebec as a new country in North America.

What's your favorite public radio show?

The BBC program MY WORD -- which is carried by many NPR stations. Nothing beats it for wit, literacy, imagination and energy. I've been listening to it all my life, through various changes in cast.

What's your secret talent?

Mimicry.

What song is stuck in your head right now, you know, a music wedgie?

The theme which isn't played in the Carmen Fantasy.

What sound is most characteristic of where you live?

Bird song.

What's your favorite sound memory?

Steam locomotive working hard on an incline in mountains.

Which station do you listen to most?

WABE -- local NPR affiliate. Before that, I listened in Toronto to the NPR outlet in Buffalo which reaches Toronto.
