Bio: Darren Stephens is an actor, singer, writer, improvisational comedian and voice talent who lives in Chicago. He can be heard on the Police Blotter Podcast and can currently be seen as a member of the incredibly skillful improvisational musical comedy group Baby Wants Candy. Question his motivation at your peril.
What's your favorite public radio show?: I love so many, but as a news junkie I have to say I'm a sucker for Morning Edition and All Things Considered. I have to say that Peter Sagal of "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me" has one my dream jobs. The Third Coast Festival people hold my attention with ReSound.
What's your secret talent?: It's not that big a secret. I'm a top-notch country yodeler. Ask anyone.
What song is stuck in your head right now, you know, a music wedgie?: Right this second, it happens to be a gospel tune: "Every Time I Feel The Spirit." For days it was a song done by friends of mine in a group called The Weird Sisters: "You Could Get A Blood Clot." Waaaay too catchy for a song about sudden unexpected death.
What sound is most characteristic of where you live?: [It is dusk. An elevated train rumbles past. Car horns. A baby cries.]
What's your favorite sound memory?: An incredible mariachi band in a restaurant in Puerto Vallarta. Their harmony singing made me cry, which amused my date.
Which station do you listen to most?: In Chicago... W! B! E! Z! Only the best public radio station on Earth.
