My life has always been about communicating, whether performing as a concert pianist (turned professional at age nine), writer (published satirist, critic, poet), lawyer, broadcaster (WCAL radio, senior music and theater critic), or international Open Source technology advocate.

What's your favorite public radio show?

Opera from the Met. As a kid, it was 'Texaco Presents...' I was so loyal, that the first credit card I had and had for years was a Texaco petrol card.

What's your secret talent?

Creating workable ideas and then successfully marketing them. For example, when I was asked to do the radio reviewing, I worked with the producer and development director on funding. And, then I learned production and became the first critic to produce her own reviews.

What song is stuck in your head right now, you know, a music wedgie?

I'm composing a Peace Requiem; there's a very quiet 'pacem', with all of the voices unison.

What sound is most characteristic of where you live?

Rufus, our 8-year old pomeranian, has taught our newly adopted shelter puppy to bark. And our neighbor has a new Lab puppy he's training on the other side of our fence. Bark bark, bark bark, baby bark....

What's your favorite sound memory?

I reviewed every night for six years, and sometimes twice on Saturdays. One night Alicia deLarrocha performed with the Minesota Orchestra, Beethoven's 4th piano concerto. The pianist starts alone. The chords. Reconciliation, hope? I put my pen down, and sit back, stunned. More chords, so simple, so straight-forward. And then the orchestra comes in. More than music. I didn't pick up my pen again that night.
