I am currrently a graduate student living in California. My research interests are organizational corruption and decision making, but my non-school interests are considerably more varied. They include reading everything from cookbooks to books on religion, music, running the occasional 5K, and trying not to kill houseplants. My past identities include IT consultant, Miss Tennessee contestant, and GMAT test prep teacher.

What's your favorite public radio show?

Car Talk. I harbor a secret desire to be a world-famous opera singer, but the secret desire that is actually feasible given my talents is to do all my own car repair. I would also like to do all my own plumbing, but as of yet, there is no NPR show called "Toilet Talk." Maybe someday.

What's your secret talent?

Noticing small details. I also sing a mean version of the B-52's "Love Shack" at karaoke with my sister. Even though I sing the male part, I always insist on screaming "Tin roof! Rusted!"

What song is stuck in your head right now, you know, a music wedgie?

"Hide and Seek" by Imogen Heap.

What sound is most characteristic of where you live?

The sound of a UPC symbol being scanned at the checkout. I live within a block of a Target, a Wal-Mart, a Safeway, a Trader Joe's, and a Whole Foods. Of course, it's not just retail establishments. Even the public library has scanners, and I live within walking distance of that, too.

What's your favorite sound memory?

My best friend singing along with the basses of Ladysmith Black Mambazo while listening to Paul Simon's song Homeless.
