I'm proud to be a Chicagoan. Especially so with our city and Mayor Daley's commitment to being Green and Sustainable.
I have lots of enthusiasms - from politics to old movies to rock climbing.

Un-earned Claim to Fame: My 1st cousin starred as Lisel in the movie "The Sound of Music". Her younger sister did the voice overs for the movie, and the oldest sister was one of the most sought after commercial actresses, Back in the day.

Earned Claim to Fame: I've been an eco-community activist since the 7th grade, since 1969. Thanks to Queen of Apostle's nuns Sister Virginia Mary and Sister Shaun Paul.

I have expertise in all 3 legs of one of the definitions of Sustainability - the "Triple Bottom Line" - Profits, People, Planet.

I belong on public radio because of three reasons: the show’s focus, my personality and my dedication to and knowledge of Sustainable businesses.

One, the show’s focus - Sustainable businesses – is taking off publicy. From climate change to green buildings, people are talking Green and Sustainable. When da mayor of Chicago is committed to Sustainability, you know it’s a hot topic.

Two - my engaging personality - I’m able to connect with everyone from CEO’s to Joe and Jane 6-pack. I inherited part of my charm from my Dad and aunt – they were in vaudeville for 20 years.

Three, my dedication to promoting Sustainability. In 1998 I leased airtime to host and produce the “Heart Works” radio show, which is where my audition tape was taken. But it goes deeper than that – I have a lifelong commitment to doing my part to solve the environmental and social justice issues that we face. That’s combined with expertise and insight gained from over 20 years in corporate America.

What's your favorite public radio show?

Prairie Home companion, which I got turned onto back in 1982. I loved Aaron Freeman's Saturday show back in the day. Whaddya Know is great. I'm biased towards Eight-Forty Eight, as I had a 10 minute story published on it in 2001("My Father's Son").

What's your secret talent?

I'm a very good listener, and listening with compassion. In explaining my photography, I call it "Listening with My Eyes".

What song is stuck in your head right now, you know, a music wedgie?

Eye of the Tiger.
The theme song from All Things Considered.

What sound is most characteristic of where you live?

Fire and ambulance sirens. But when I walk two blocks east, there's the waves of Lake Michigan. Ah,that's life in the city.

What's your favorite sound memory?

Kids splashing in a pool or running around near water. I grew up playing in a pool, with lots of brothers and sisters.

Also, the sound of freight trains. The whistle and the bump-bump as they cross an intersection Growing up just south of the city, we were surrounded by railroad tracks. They became part of our playground area.

Which station do you listen to most?
WBEZ. Over the last 25 years, Public Radio has been my favorite. It's been my source of news. I followed the Iran hostage crisis (1979-80)in college thru "All Things Considered". When Air America came to Chicago , I switched. But now, it's 50-50.
