My name's Devon Bryant, my middle name is Torrey. I'm related to our fattest president, William Howard Taft, through that middle name. It has always been told to me that the Torries had their names legally changed during the 1700s to reflect just HOW ardently they supported that political party in the British Parliament. Which is nothing if not committed. I live in Chicago with my cat Abby, and I play guitar.

What's your favorite public radio show?

I'm a big fan of Michael Silverblatt (on KCRW's Bookworm) and would love to hang out with Gwen Macsai (on WBEZ's Resound), but I'm afraid, as a show, you have to give it to This American Life. It's like The Beatles. Everybody likes The Beatles, and everybody likes This American Life.

What's your secret talent?

Procrastination.

What song is stuck in your head right now, you know, a music wedgie?

"The Little Black Egg" as covered by The Cars.

What sound is most characteristic of where you live?

The tea kettle, slamming doors and muffled kick drums.

What's your favorite sound memory?

The first time I heard "Alien Lanes" by Guided By Voices, being driven home from the Twin Pines Mall in Longmont, CO in the back of my mom's magenta sports van, I opened the packaging, and it just looked so weird, and how could there POSSIBLY be that many songs on one album? I ran inside when we got home, I put it on, and I listened to it maybe 5 times in a row. I knew most of the words in about 3 listens, because I was sure I'd heard it before. Still makes me feel like that every time I hear it.
