Bio: I am a philosopher, mainly a phenomenologist. I love to listen. I love motorcycles and open roads. I was born in Montgomery, AL. I went to college in Tallahassee, FL. I have studied religion, though I am not religious myself. I play capoeira from time to time. I scarcely deserve the respect and support my friends give me. I love to eat sushi.
What's your favorite public radio show?: Yeah, I really dig This American Life, but who doesn't? The B-Side is pretty good. And so is Benjamin Walker and his crazy self. I also really like Soundprint. And Re:sound. Don't make me choose a favorite; there is plenty of love to go around.
What's your secret talent?: I can sit through almost any movie. Except Cable Guy. I just couldn't do it.
What song is stuck in your head right now, you know, a music wedgie?: Andrew Bird. Fiery Crash. "Close your eyes and you wake up, face stuck to a vinyl setee ..."
What sound is most characteristic of where you live?: Right now, I'm in Brooklyn. Straight trains passing and people screaming for Freedom. (Freedom is my next door neighbor. He is a heavy sleeper.)
What's your favorite sound memory?: I was once in Bahia, Brazil. I went to an old fort and saw some capoeiristas play Angola. There was a guy there playing the berimbau, who sang songs that proved the existence of the soul.
