Bio: My resume is long, complicated, and not really all that interesting. Let's just say I've been very, very lucky.
What's your favorite public radio show?: Car Talk. In the way long ago, Tom Magliozzi used to repair my Toyota at the old Good News Garage in Cambridge.
What's your secret talent?: I don't have a secret talent. Everything is right out front where you can see it.
What song is stuck in your head right now, you know, a music wedgie?: This is an impossible question to answer. At any given moment, there is a song stuck in my head, and it might be by Todd Snider or Steve Earle or Ray Wylie Harris, or it might be by Thelonious Monk or John Coltrane or Sonny Fortune, or it might be by The New York Dolls. When it comes to music, you probably would not want to be in my head. It's pretty chaotic.
What sound is most characteristic of where you live?: The purring of cats.
What's your favorite sound memory?: This is actually easy: Pharoah Sanders at Slugs, probably in 1972, striking a bronze bowl with a mallet, and moving it in a circle around the microphone, making different parts of the room vibrate.
Which station do you listen to most?: WCQS-FM, Asheville, NC
